Mid-Prairie takes ninth in tournament
MARION - The Mid-Prairie girls’ golf team participated in the Linn-Mar Invitational held at Hunter’s Ridge Golf Course on Tuesday, April 29.
The Golden Hawks finished ninth in the 14-team field posting a team score of 417 strokes. Sophomore Allyson Wertz led the way for Mid-Prairie with a score of 93, followed by senior Courtney Cayton with her 98. Senior Sydney Scarff shot a 112 and senior Mick VanWinkle finished at 114.
“I was really proud of the effort the kids put forth today. Along with some chilly and damp weather, the girls went up against the No. 1 team in Class 4A along with five ranked teams in 5A and did great. Hunter’s Ridge is not an easy golf course, but the girls showed that they can compete both at a tough venue and also against some stiff competition. Allyson played very steady all day long and finished just outside the top 10 individually. Courtney had a few struggles early on, but she always shows the experience and ability to bounce back that comes from being a senior. Sydney and Mick also played well overall despite a few bad holes. Neither gave up on themselves and played hard till the end,“ Mid-Prairie head coach Trace McArtor said.
The Golden Hawk girls will tee off again on Friday, May 2, at Iowa Valley.
