Mid-Prairie wallops Tipton to improve to 9-0 in the CVC
KALONA — Second-ranked Mid-Prairie rolled to a three-inning 18-1 victory over visiting Tipton in a Cedar Valley Conference softball game at Carr-Vincent-Gould Field on Thursday evening.
The Golden Hawks (11-4, 6-0 CVC) scored six runs in the first inning, and then added 12 more in the second. Tipton scored its lone run in the third.
Senior Michelle Erwin and sophomore Taylor Kurtz both went 2-for-2 at the plate with a double and three RBIs. Freshman Amber Kral was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs, and senior Mallory McArtor went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Senior Felicia Schulty went 2-for-3 and drove in a run, and sophomore Lexi Duwa was 1-for-1 with an RBI. Junior Whitney Christiansen went 1-for-2 and drove in a pair of runs, while senior Mariah Swartzentruber, junior Emilee Norman, freshman Alex Rath and freshman Naomi Frantz each had an RBI. Senior Maddie Kaalberg chipped in a hit for the Golden Hawks.
Kurtz allowed one unearned run on three hits in three innings to get the win. She struck out three batters and did not issue a walk.
