Mid-Prairie's Peterschmidt picks up CVC title with his 100th career win
WEST BRANCH — Mid-Prairie crowned one individual conference champion and placed third as a team at Saturday’s Cedar Valley Conference wrestling tournament in West Branch.
Junior Phirom Peterschmidt, who is ranked ninth in Class 2A, won the 182-pound championship. His 9-3 win over West Branch’s Michael Madsen in the finals was also his 100th career victory, something only three wrestlers had accomplished in school history before he reached the milestone on Saturday.
Senior Nearoth Peterschmidt, who is ranked 10th, was runner-up at 195 pounds. He lost a 9-5 decision to third-ranked Cade Jones of West Branch in the finals.
Sophomore 113-pounder Josh Murphy, senior 138-pounder Kendall Bontrager and freshman 152-pounder Miguel Sanchez each took third place for the Golden Hawks. Freshman 106-pounder Ryan Errthum, senior 126-pounder Jayse Horning, freshman 145-pounder Jacob Adrian, freshman 160-pounder Cameron Tolander and junior 170-pounder Eesaa Baylor were each fourth, and junior 220-pounder Ben Fiordelise took sixth place.
Mid-Prairie will travel to Vinton-Shellsburg on Saturday for a Class 2A sectional tournament that will begin at noon.
