Middle school girls compete at meet
WELLMAN – The Washington Middle School eighth-grade girls’ track and field team participated in a four-team meet at Mid-Prairie High School on Saturday, May 10. Washington placed third with 123 team points.
Kayla Andrew won the shot put competition with her throw of 26 feet, 10 inches. The shuttle hurdle relay (Andrew, Makenna Rich, Michaela Hoffman and Morgan Brinning) took first place with a time of 1 minute, 16.38 seconds. Brooke Stout was the runner-up in the discus at 73-10.
Meredith Raber placed second in the high jump, clearing the bar asset at 4-4. The 4x800-meter relay (Stout, Megan Mitchell, Baylee Stalder and Raber) was the runner-up with a time of 11:46.57. Washington (Rich, Andrew, Allison Vogel and Stout) also came in second in the distance medley in 5:03.76.
The 4x200-meter relay (Vogel, Brinning, Kristen Twinam and Megan Strabala) finished second with a time of 2:07.95. In the sprint medley, Washington (Rich, Brinning, Vogel and Strabala) was second in 2:13.52. The 4x400-meter relay (Stalder, Strabala, Mitchell and Andrew) took second place with a time of 5:01.98.
Stalder also scored for Washington in the high jump, clearing 4-2 to place third. Brinning represented Washington well in the long jump, making her mark at 13-2 ¾ for third place. In the 200-meter hurdles, Twinam finished with a third-place time of 35.74.
Fourth place in the 10-flight hurdles was earned by Hoffman in 21.51. The 4x100-meter relay (Twinam, Tiara Kraus, Alexis Edwards and Hoffman) came in fourth with a time of 1:03.73. Mitchell was also fourth place in the discus at 52-8.
Rich placed in the long jump as well. Her leap of 12-6 ¾ was good for fifth place. Kraus got a similar placement in the 10-flight with her time of 22.97. Fifth place in the 800-meter run was taken by Edwards in 3:19.57. Tiffany Poland finished sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 17.84.
Stalder did the same in the 400-meter dash in 1:15.87. Edwards came in sixth place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 37.66.
