Middle School girls place highly at meet
FORT MADISON – The Washington Middle School eighth-grade girls’ track and field team participated in a meet on Monday, May 5.
Kayla Andrew took second place in the shot put with her throw of 25 feet, 8 inches. The shuttle hurdle relay (Andrew, Makenna Rich, Michaela Hoffman and Morgan Brinning) placed second with a time of 1 minute, 19.22 seconds. The sprint medley (Rich, Brinning, Allison Vogel and Megan Strabala) also finished in second place in 2:16.27.
Brooke Stout came in third place in the discus with her throw of 69 feet. The distance medley (Rich, Brooke Stout, Vogel and Megan Mitchell) had a third-place time of 5:18.18. Andrew scored again in the 1,500-meter run with a third-place time of 6:02.
The 4x400-meter relay (Strabala, Baylee Stalder, Meredith Raber and Andrew) was also third in 5:04.5. Kristen Twinam placed fourth in the shot put with a mark at 24-3 ¾. The 4x200-meter relay (Vogel, Brinning, Twinam and Strabala) finished fourth with a time of 2:11.91.
Raber came in fourth in the 800-meter run in 3:01. Megan Mitchell took fifth place in the discus with her throw of 58-3. Stout was fifth in the 800 in 3:06.
The 4x100-meter relay (Twinam, Tiara Kraus, Alexis Edwards and Hoffman) finished fifth with a time of 1:04.79. Stalder took sixth place in the high jump, clearing the bar set at 4 feet. Tiffany Poland placed sixth in the 400 in 1:35.31.
