One of the great aspects of the Christian life is that God not only calls us to holy living, but He enables us to live in His image.
Several years ago an airplane wing-walker, Lee Orman, slipped underneath a Waco biplane and hung from a safety line 1,500 feet over a rural Oregon airport during an air show. Most of the crowd thought it was just part of his act. After the plane had circled the airport for 20 minutes, people realized something was wrong. Several men jumped into a pickup truck and sped down the runway after they saw Orman’s danger. The skilled pilot saw the truck and realized their planned rescue. The stunt man didn’t have the strength to pull himself back up, but could be lowered over the vehicle. While one man grabbed Orman and pulled him into the truck bed, the other cut the nylon safety harness. Thankfully, Orman was quickly freed.
This is a good picture of what God did for us when we put our faith in Christ. He frees us from the deadly grasp of this world’s evil system. Not only that, He gives us daily victory as we walk by faith in Him (I John 2:13, 14). Paul says in I Corinthians 15:57, “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” As Christian author Mark Harris writes, “Only the presence of the indwelling Christ can transform one’s character.” We “begin in Christ, continue in Christ and are perfected in Christ.”
The wonderful gift of salvation makes it all possible. Have you accepted Him as your Lord and Savior? Remember John 3:16’s promise, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
