Miscues cost IMS in 5-3 loss to WACO
KALONA — A pair of IMS errors in the sixth inning allowed WACO to score three runs and break a 2-2 tie, and the Warriors went on to win Thursday’s Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division softball game 5-3.
WACO scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead, but IMS tied the game in the third inning on junior Jacayla Litwiller’s RBI double and senior Laura Hochstetler’s sacrifice fly. But then a couple of miscues allowed the Warriors to take control of the game.
Sophomore Stasia Majerick’s double to centerfield brought home a run in the bottom of the sixth inning, but IMS (4-7, 4-7 SEISC North) was unable to get any closer.
Majerick went 2-for-3 in the game, and sophomore Demi Brezina went 2-for-4 and scored a run. Litwiller had an RBI double, while senior Naomi Miller, senior Keilah Brokaw and junior Casey Perez added hits.
Hochstetler took the loss. She gave up five runs, two of which were earned, on seven hits. She struck out six batters and walked four.
