Mishap on U.S. 34 claims New London woman
A car-moped collision on Highway 34 Wednesday claimed the life of a New London woman.
Debra Mason-Rice, 59, New London, was killed when the moped she was operating was struck from behind by a 1999 Jetta, operated by Cory Price, 24, of Coralville, according to a crash report by the Iowa State Patrol.
Both vehicles were eastbound in the right lane of Highway 34 two miles east of Mt. Pleasant at approximately 6:25 a.m., when the Price vehicle struck Mason-Rice’s moped from behind. Both vehicles remained engaged until they came to rest on the south shoulder, the report stated.
The Iowa State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa DOT and New London Fire and Rescue.
