Moving on to the semi's
VICTOR — Iowa Mennonite earned its second 3-0 win on the road, Tuesday, this time over HLV to advance to the Regional volleyball semifinals.
IMS cruised in the first set 25-16. The next two sets it trailed, including at 21-20 in the third set before a 25-22 win. The second set was decided by a score of 25-21.
“I liked how we responded to the challenge in our execution down the stretch in sets two and three,” said head coach Dwight Gingerich. “ Things will only get tougher, so hopefully we can take our overall play and consistency up a notch.”
IMS (25-9) moves to a perfect 6-0 in sets after two sweeps in the first two rounds.
Senior Olivia Yutzy led the team with 23 kills and was second on the team with 10 digs in the match. Senior Casey Perez had team-highs of 27 assists and 11 digs. She went 12-of-12 on serves.
Junior Demi Brezina also led the team with 11 digs. Junior Hannah Miller had four kills and seven digs.
Junior Riley Schmieder led the team with three blocks. Senior Kristin Davis was second on the team with 10 digs. “It’s one-and-done time and you are grateful to move on,” Gingerich said. “It is only going to get tougher. Belle Plaine comes in with an even tougher record.”
IMS plays Belle Plaine at Victor, Friday at 7 p.m.
