New golf pro in Washington
Braden Gaal has made a homecoming, as the Washington Country Club’s new full-time resident golf professional. It has been over 20 years since the club last had a pro, and Gaal is the club’s fifth pro in its history.
Gaal is a 2009 graduate of Washington High School. He attended the University of Northern Iowa for four years, during which he played golf for the Panthers in the Mississippi Valley Conference. His golf accolades include being a three-year letter-winner and a first-team All-Academic All-Conference award winner his senior year. He graduated in May 2013 from UNI with a Bachelor of Science in business management degree. Gaal also spent last summer as an assistant professional at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls.
“Becoming the golf pro here was a mutual-interest thing. I made the suggestion, the club liked it, and we worked on it from there,” Gaal said.
Gaal’s first initiative is to get programs going for younger players.
“I want to get them started the proper way so that they never develop the bad habits in the game that so many adults have to try to fix. Of course I’ll offer all the same services that a golf pro normally does as well,” Gaal explained.
Braden is the son of Bob and Krista Gaal of Washington.
