No. 1 seed set to square off with No. 2 seed
The Mid-Prairie football team failed in its last attempt to knock off an undefeated team.
It was by the slimmest of margins, 12-10, against Mediapolis, Oct. 11.
Now if it hopes to advance to the quarterfinals of the state tournament, it must knock off No. 1 seed and second-ranked Albia, Monday at 7 p.m. on the road.
Albia (10-0) easily dispatched Louisa-Muscatine 29-6 in the opening round.
No. 12 Mid-Prairie had an even easier time with Davis County of Bloomfield, with a 36-8 win.
Albia is ninth in the state in rushing with 2,557. The Golden Hawks, meanwhile, rank 25th with 1,960 yards.
Albia has the sixth most rushing touchdowns in 2A with 40. The Golden Hawks have 27, which ranks 19th in the state.
Senior place kicker Austin Errthum has proved to be a sure bet. He is second in the state with six field goals. His long of 46 yards is the fourth best in 2A.
Mid-Prairie senior running back Eesaa Baylor ranks 16th in the state with 997 rushing yards as he looks set to hit the 1,000-yard mark.
Golden Hawks senior Reid Miller is 10th in the state in passing yards with 1,339. He ranks 13th in the state with 13 touchdown passes.
