Only one way to change a heart
“This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it for His mercy endures forever.” The love and mercy of God is the greatest gift that a human being can ever experience. The hope that we can have every day and the hope that we can have for the future is there because of God’s mercy and love. The Bible says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?” It also says that “The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Today as I look back at the tragedies that have come our way of late, of innocent lives being taken, of greed and corruption, of the atrocities that mankind has committed on others, the thoughts come to my mind as why is this happening when the Bible says, Jesus speaking, “I come that you might have life and have it more abundantly.” I know that down through the years of time there has been much evil and suffering in the world in which we live brought on by the evil desires and corruption of mankind. Laws were made which if men had obeyed, things would be different. But laws cannot change mankind or what is in his heart. The heart is basically you and your innermost being. What you feed your heart or what you focus on is what determines what you will do. Feed it the right things and good will come out, feed it bad things and that is what will come out and laws will not make you different. I think of all the laws that we have and still much evil prevails.
I see the violence that is in our land today and the tragedies that result from it and yet I wonder what do we expect when many of the movies, television shows, and electronic games that we play are centered on this very thing until it affects our lives and the way we live? Also the way that the news media covers these things, spends hours on them and brings thoughts and actions into people’s lives and they do the same thing. We put God out and yet He is the only one who can change our heart. The Word of God says, “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will put within you, and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh.”
This is what we need today for ourselves and for our nation. Jesus said, “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” This is the real answer to our problems and what we really need. Not more laws but the love of God being in our hearts and lives. Thank you.
