Over $600 raised for Pennies for Patients
RIVERSIDE—The Highland Middle School raised over $600 for Pennies for Patients.
As a group, the student council decided what the fundraiser would be for this spring, said student council advisor and teacher at the middle school Jayme Kallaus.
The goal was to raise $450 as a school, but the school has raised more than $650, Kallaus said. A final count wasn’t available before press time because the fundraiser ended on Friday.
The money raised by the student council is going to the cancer and lymphoma society of Iowa, Kallaus said.
Some of the activities the student council sponsored for donating money included: hat day, playing a basketball game called “knock out” with the other grades, and a free study period during the day Friday, the student council members said.
A pizza party was awarded to the study period that raised the most money, Kallaus said. The whole school will also receive an ice cream treat for surpassing its goal of $450.
When asked what they thought about passing the goal of raising $450, all of the student council members said it was “very exciting.”
