Phone scam reported in Kalona Thursday

Mar 07, 2014

The Washington County Communications Center reported Thursday afternoon there is a scam going around Kalona.  The caller has a phone number with a 319 area code and the caller claimed to be from Alliant Energy. Coincidentally Alliant trucks were in the area doing some type of work Thursday, making the calls more believable than normal.
The caller is targeting businesses and threatening to turn off their power instantly if they don’t pay with “money paks.” The call is a scam.
People are advised under no circumstance to give out personal information or money over the phone.  They can always call the company claiming to need payment on their regular business line and inquire about their financial situation. They should not call back the number given by the scammer.
