Play Historic Scavenger Hunt

May 06, 2013
Weeping willows were very popular when Woodlawn was new. Not only do they symbolize mourning, they also indicate rebirth in that they are so easy to root. This marker is small tablet with a pointed gothic style top. The willow is framed in what looks like the tracery in stained glass windows. You will find Maria's marker close to the angel. Who is buried just south of Maria and what do the markers have in common?

Welcome to the 2013 Historical Preservation Scavenger Hunt. The City of Washington’s Historic Preservation Commission hopes you will help the commissioners celebrate for the next four weeks. All of the answers to the clues can be found in the two local cemeteries. Please take care as you wander in search of markers and mausoleums.

More detailed guidelines and an entry blank may be found in the Monday, May 6, Journal. Photos and clues are published Monday through Thursday for four weeks.
