Arrests

Matthew Scott Thornton, 26, of Hedrick, was arrested Friday evening in the 100 block of West Fountain Street in Brighton for failure to appear on an original charge of operating while intoxicated.

Dale Raymond Rotzinger, 74, of Richland, was arrested Saturday morning in the 200 block of West Main Street in Washington for two counts of third-degree harassment.

Ricky Gene Smith, 58, of Washington, was arrested Sunday afternoon in the 400 block of East Polk Street in Washington for assault on a peace officer.

Ricky Gene Smith, 58, of Washington, was arrested Sunday evening in the 2100 block of Lexington Boulevard in Washington for aggravated assault.

Anthony James Brock, 23, of Washington, was arrested Sunday evening in the 800 block of East Madison Street in Washington for child endangerment and assault causing bodily injury.

 

Traffic accidents

A vehicle vs. deer accident was reported Friday night in the 1900 block of Highway 92 in Washington. Officers responded.

A two-vehicle accident was reported Friday night in the 600 block of E Avenue in Kalona. Kalona Rescue, Kalona First Responders, officers and Washington County Ambulance responded. One patient was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Jeremiah Charles Lassy of Kalona was cited for no proof of insurance and failure to use continuous signal. Josie Slaubaugh of Wellman was cited for failure to stop at a safe and assured distance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A two-vehicle accident was reported Friday night in the 600 block of North Iowa Avenue in Washington. Both vehicles left the scene. Officers responded.

An accident was reported Saturday morning at Highway 22 and Eighth Street in Wellman. Officers responded. Alexandria Naylor was cited for failure to yield to the vehicle on the right.

A vehicle reportedly struck a stop sign Saturday afternoon at Palm Avenue and 240th Street in Washington. Officers attempted to locate.

A single vehicle accident was reported Saturday night in the 2400 block of 500th Street in Kalona. Kalona Fire and Kalona QRS responded.

A hit-and-run accident was reported Sunday evening at the Skate Park in Washington. Officers responded. Information was exchanged.

 

Traffic other

Charles William Zwicki of Washington was cited Friday morning in the 300 block of West Main Street in Washington for unlawful passing of a school bus.

A vehicle was reported stuck Saturday morning in the 2700 block of Highway 22 in Riverside. Officers responded. The vehicle was towed.

Charles Levi Hinh, 27, of New Glarus, Wis., was cited Saturday afternoon in the 200 block of Wiley Avenue in Washington for driving under suspension and failure to maintain registration. A warning was given for no proof of insurance. Iowa driver’s license was seized due to suspended status.

 

Fire calls

A field fire was reported Sunday evening at SW 540th and James Avenue in Kalona. Kalona Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire.

 

Assault

A caller in the 1300 block of North Sixth Avenue in Washington reported a subject that lives with him assaulted him. Officers responded. The parties were separated.

 

Weapon violation

A caller in the 800 block of North Fourth Avenue in Washington reported Sunday afternoon that a neighbor boy whom they had problems with in the past had pulled a knife on her 8-year-old son. He then chased her kids with a dog. Officers spoke with all parties. Unfounded.

 

Drug/narcotics violation

A green bottle with a white powdery substance was reported Friday evening at Highways 22 and 218 in Riverside. Officers responded.

 

All other thefts

Someone reportedly took a debit card from the caller’s wallet Friday evening in the 100 block of East Madison Street in Washington. A $20 purchase was made on the Internet. The incident was documented.

A handicapped placard was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 100 block of E Avenue in Kalona Saturday afternoon. Officers were advised.

A gas drive-off in the amount of $47.62 was reported Saturday afternoon in the 300 block of West Madison Street in Washington. Officers were advised.

A caller reported Sunday morning a subject had the caller’s jacket and was trying to sell it on the Internet. Officers spoke with the caller. It was a civil matter.

A gas drive-off in the amount of $25 was reported Sunday morning in the 300 block of East Washington Street in Washington. Officers attempted to locate.

A 55-gallon drum was reported missing from a residence in the 200 block of Franklin Street in West Chester. The incident was documented.

Both license plates were reported taken from a truck in the 300 block of North C Avenue in Washington Sunday evening. Officers responded.

 

Vandalism

A building in the 400 block of North Iowa Avenue in Washington was reported egged Saturday morning. The incident was documented.

 

Intimidation/harassment

A student was reported being non-compliant and threatening Friday afternoon in the 300 block of South Fourth Avenue in Washington. Officers responded.

A caller reported Sunday afternoon being stalked in the 900 block of West Main Street in Washington. Officers responded and attempted to contact the other party to advise him to have no further contact.

 

Disorderly conduct

A subject reportedly wouldn’t leave a residence in the 500 block of North Second Avenue in Washington Friday night. Officers responded. The parties were separated.

A caller in the 700 block of 12th Avenue in Wellman reported Saturday afternoon that her 14-year-old foster son was out of control. Officers responded. Parents will take the juvenile to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City for an evaluation. DHS case manager will be notified.

 

Illegal dumping

Someone reportedly dumped five large garbage bags in a dumpster in the 200 block of West Washington Street in Washington. Officers responded.

Trash was reported thrown on a property in the 3000 block of Ginkgo Avenue in Brighton Saturday morning. Officers spoke with the caller.

 

DP&Q

Loud music was reported Saturday morning in the 20 block of Parkside Estates Road in Washington. Officers responded.

Someone was reportedly shooting off fireworks Saturday night in the 200 block of North Harrison Street in Brighton. Officers were unable to locate.

Loud music was reported coming from a residence in the 500 block of North C Avenue in Washington. Officers responded.

 

Family offense non violent

A subject was reported at a residence in the 700 block of South Ninth Avenue in Washington Friday night and the caller did not want her there. Officers responded.

An officer reported Saturday evening being in the 400 block of East Madison Street in Washington speaking with two people who were having a domestic dispute. Verbal only.

 

Suspicious activity

A subject was reported lying in a ditch Saturday evening in the 2600 block of Wayland Road in Washington. Officers were unable to locate.

A suspicious subject was reported Sunday afternoon in the 2400 block of Highway 92 in Washington. Officers responded. No problem.

A subject was reported Sunday afternoon in the 200 block of West Madison Street in Washington asking customers for money. Officers responded.

 

Welfare check

A welfare check was requested Saturday evening on a subject in the 400 block of West Tyler Street in Washington. Officers and Washington County Ambulance responded. No one was home.

A caller in the 300 block of C Avenue in Kalona requested a welfare check on his 8-year-old son who was staying with his ex-wife. Officers spoke with all parties. No problem.
