Arrests

Salvatore Patrick Middono of Mt. Pleasant, was arrested Wednesday afternoon in the 2400 block of Highway 92 in Washington for fifth-degree theft.

Hank William McCann Jr., 19, of Crawfordsville, was arrested Thursday morning at 315th and Fern Cliff Road in Crawfordsville for failure to appear on an original charge of driving under suspension. The subject is also wanted out of Polk County for prohibited acts – manufacture, delivery, conspiracy or possession probation violation.

 

Traffic accidents

A vehicle vs. deer accident was reported Wednesday morning at 192nd and Highway 218 in Ainsworth. Officers responded. The vehicle was towed.

 

Fire calls

Ainsworth Fire Department responded Wednesday morning to the 200 block of Miller Avenue in Ainsworth to reports of insulation in the attic of a residence that was smoldering. The caller explained the house had been struck by lightning earlier that morning and workers discovered the issue. The fire was extinguished.

Lightning reportedly struck a house or a power line Wednesday afternoon in the 1100 block of East Washington Street in Washington and a power line was down. Officers, Washington Fire Department and Alliant Energy responded.

A caller in the 1000 block of East Washington Street in Washington reported Thursday morning that she smelled something burning in her basement. Officers and Washington Fire Department responded. No fire. Water in her basement was causing electrical problems.

 

Burglary

A caller in the 1500 block of Ginkgo Avenue in Wellman reported Wednesday evening that someone had entered his home and there was money missing. Officers responded.

 

Vandalism

A caller in the 1400 block of Larch Avenue in Kalona reported Wednesday morning that his 911 address sign was shot up sometime last month. The incident was documented.

Damage was reported to a mailbox in the 3200 block of 140th Street in Riverside Wednesday evening. The damage appeared to be from snow removal.

 

Intimidation/harassment

A caller in the 700 block of East 15th Street in Washington reported Wednesday afternoon that someone got into the Facebook account and the email account and changed passwords. The incident is under investigation.

A caller in the 700 block of East 15th Street in Washington reported a subject was harassing her again. The subject was sitting in her vehicle between the caller’s home and the neighboring residence. Officers responded. The subject was advised to move on and if she returns to the area she would be arrested for harassment.

 

Animal complaints

A subject in the 600 block of North Iowa Avenue in Washington was reportedly leaving his dogs outside too long in the rain Wednesday afternoon. Officers responded. The owner advised he only let them out momentarily. The incident was documented.

 

DP&Q

A possible gas leak was reported at a residence in the 2400 block of 219th Boulevard in Washington. Washington Fire Department responded. The gas smell was sewage.

 

All other offenses

A bike was reported in the 200 block of South Ninth Avenue in Washington Wednesday afternoon and it had been there since Sunday. The bike was taken to the bike shed.

 

Public service contact

An officer was requested Tuesday afternoon in the 300 block of West Madison Street in Washington. The caller was upset in reference to an incident with the Department of Human Services. Officers were unable to locate the caller.
