Arrests

John William Vandewalker, 34, of Wayland, was arrested Thursday afternoon in the 200 block of West Second Street in Washington for public intoxication.

Travis Richard Yoder, 31, of Wellman, was arrested Thursday night in the 1900 block of Highway 22 in Kalona for operating while intoxicated.

 

Traffic accidents

A caller in the 300 block of South Fourth Avenue in Washington reported Thursday morning that a parent struck a teacher’s vehicle and left the area. Officers responded. Information was exchanged.

A vehicle was reported struck by another vehicle Thursday afternoon in the 2400 block of Highway 92 in Washington. Officers responded. The night manager will review the surveillance footage.

 

Traffic other

A caller reported Thursday afternoon running over a large piece of metal that was in the roadway in the 1700 block of Highway 1 in Washington. The caller believed the metal fell off a semi. Officers responded. Information was exchanged.

 

Burglary

A possible break-in was reported Thursday afternoon in the 200 block of North railroad Street in Ainsworth. Officers responded and contacted the owner. No entry was gained.

 

Disorderly conduct

A verbal altercation was reported Thursday morning at East 11th Street and North Fourth Avenue in Washington. Officers located the subjects. The situation was resolved.

 

Intimidation/harassment

A caller in the 600 block of East Washington Street in Washington reported Thursday morning being stalked by a subject from Davenport. Officers spoke with the caller. The incident was documented.

A caller in the 200 block of Washington Street in Ainsworth reported Thursday afternoon two subjects were harassing her via cell phone. The incident was documented.

 

Illegal dumping

Someone reportedly dumped five bags of garbage in the 1000 block of West Buchanan Street in Washington. Officers made contact with the owner, who cleaned up the trash.

 

Animal complaints

A horse reportedly partially slipped out of a trailer Thursday morning in the 1900 block of Highway 92 in Washington. Officers responded to assist.

A loose dog was reported Thursday morning in the 800 block of Fourth Street in Wellman. Mark Allen Baker, 56, of Wellman, was cited for allowing a dog to run at large.

 

Family offense non violent

Officers reported Thursday afternoon being out with DHS in the 1300 block of 192nd Street in Keota in reference to a family situation. The incident was documented.

An officer was requested Thursday afternoon to assist two residences in the City of Washington. Officers responded. The incident was documented.

An officer was requested Thursday evening in the 700 block of East Main Street in Washington in reference to on-going issues with the caller’s 17-year-old daughter. Officers spoke with the caller.

 

Public service contact

Subjects were reported going door-to-door attempting to clean carpets Thursday afternoon in the 1100 block of Eighth Avenue in Wellman. Frantz Smith of Moline, Ill., and Nathan Ronnau of Erie, Ill., were cited for no peddler’s license. Verbal warnings were given to three other subjects.

 

Suspicious activity

A caller in the 200 block of Eighth Avenue in Wellman reported Thursday morning what sounded like three or four gunshots. Officers checked the area.

 

Civil dispute

A caller in the 500 block of Sixth Street in Wellman reported Thursday evening bartering a cell phone for a laptop and the other party was insisting she pay for repairs to the device. Officers were advised. It was a civil matter.
