Arrests

Randy Vincent Rarick, 28, of Wayland, was arrested Friday afternoon in the 2100 block of Lexington Boulevard in Washington for probation violation on prohibited acts.

Gia Ann Gray, 45, of Washington, was arrested Friday afternoon in the 2100 block of Lexington Boulevard in Washington for failure to appear for driving while barred.

Victor Manuel Mezapalacious, 25, of Washington, was arrested Saturday morning in the 200 block of West Madison Street in Washington for OWI.

Rick Alan Wheeler, 44, of Washington, was arrested Sunday evening in the 100 block of South Marion Avenue in Washington for public intoxication.

 

Traffic accidents

A vehicle vs. deer accident was reported Friday night at Highway 218 and 150th Street in Riverside. Iowa State Patrol responded.

An officer reported Sunday night being out at South E Avenue and West Lincoln Street in Washington with a vehicle in the ditch. Over $1,500 damage was reported.

 

Traffic stop serious

Thomas Allen Sines, 58, of Wayland, was cited Sunday afternoon at East Monroe Street and South Second Avenue in Washington for driving under suspension and no proof of insurance.

 

Traffic other

A caller in the 300 block of South Jefferson Street in Brighton reported Friday morning that vehicle parts were in the roadway. Officers located the debris and found damage in the yard. Officers spoke with all victims. Insurance information was given to all. Suspect has until Aug. 22 to repair the damages or victims will file claims with his insurance company. No one wished to pursue charges.

 

Fire calls

A vehicle was reported on fire Saturday evening in the 1000 block of North Fifth Avenue in Washington. Washington Fire Department and officers responded. The fire was extinguished. The vehicle was towed.

An officer reported Sunday morning being out at a residence in the 600 block of E Avenue in Kalona in reference to illegal burning. A written warning was issued.

 

Assault

Deputies were requested Saturday night in the 200 block of North Green Street in Keota to assist officers. Deputies responded.

 

Weapon violation

A subject was reported Sunday afternoon at West main Street and North Marion Avenue in Washington with a gun. Officers responded. It was a toy gun. The toy was seized.

 

Drug/narcotics violations

A suspicious smell was reported Sunday morning in the 2100 block of Lexington Boulevard in Washington. Officers were unable to locate.

 

All other thefts

A caller in the 700 block of East Third Street in Washington reported Friday evening that someone stole a gas can. The incident was documented.

A gas drive-off was reported Sunday afternoon in the 1000 block of West Madison Street in Washington. Officers contacted the subjects in the vehicle. They will return and pay. The incident was documented.

 

Vandalism

Two juveniles were reported vandalizing concrete steps in the 300 block of South Iowa Avenue in Washington. Officers responded. A step will be replaced. Officers tried to locate the juveniles.

A caller in the 700 block of North Fifth Avenue in Washington reported Sunday morning that an intoxicated neighbor had broken a “for sale” sign in her yard the previous night. Officers responded and advised the caller to report the incident when it occurred. The incident was documented.

 

Intimidation/harassment

A caller in the 400 block of Eighth Avenue in Wellman reported Friday afternoon a subject was bothering her and a friend. The subject reported the two were yelling at him for no reason. Officers spoke with both parties and advised them to have no further contact.

A deputy was requested Saturday evening in the 100 block of Lake Darling Road in Brighton for juveniles who had thrown rocks and hit other children. Officers responded. No charges. Both groups threw rocks. The parties were separated for the evening.

A caller in the 100 block of South Sixth Street in Kalona reported Saturday night that a subject was harassing them via texts and phone calls. Officers responded. The suspect was advised to have no further contact. The caller was advised to do the same.

A caller in the 400 block of East Jefferson Street in Washington reported Sunday evening a subject was harassing him. Officers spoke with both subjects. They were advised to have no further contact.

A subject reportedly threatened to harm another subject in the 100 block of South Sixth Street in Kalona. Officers responded. Unfounded.

A caller in the 500 block of North C Avenue in Washington reported Sunday evening subjects were harassing her. Officers responded.

 

Disorderly conduct

A subject was reported in the 500 block of East Seventh Street in Washington Saturday morning causing trouble and trying to start a fight. Officers responded. The subject had left prior to officers’ arrival.

 

Prowlers

A caller in the 700 block of East Third Street in Washington reported Sunday morning having prowlers outside his house all night. Officers were unable to locate anyone.

 

Trespass

A subject was reported Sunday morning in the 10 block of Parkside Estates Road in Washington and was previously banned. Officers responded and were unable to locate the subject.

 

Mental subject

A caller in the 200 block of East Jefferson Street in Washington reported Saturday morning that a friend was thinking about harming himself. Officers responded. The subject was given a ride to the Washington County Hospital.

 

Animal complaint

A dog that wasn’t being cared for was reported Friday morning in the 600 block of West Adams Street in Washington. The caller reported the owner drags it around by its leash and mistreats it. Officers responded. Unfounded. The dog is well cared for and is healthy.

A caller in the 2800 block of Louisa/Washington Road in Crawfordsville reported Saturday morning that horses and goats were in his cornfield again. This is an ongoing situation.

A large loose dog was reported Saturday afternoon in the 1100 block of East Washington Street in Washington. Officers were unable to locate.

A bat was reported in a residence in the 300 block of East Main Street in Washington Sunday morning. Officers responded to assist.

An officer was requested Sunday night in the 300 block of East Main Street in Washington for a bat in the residence. Officers responded.

 

DP&Q

Loud music was reported Saturday morning in the 1000 block of East Van Buren Street in Washington. Officers located the music during football practice at Case Field. The subjects agreed to turn the music down.

Subjects in the 600 block of North Fifth Avenue in Washington were reported revving their engine and playing loud music Saturday night. Officers were unable to locate any loud noises.

A caller in the 500 block of South Eighth Avenue in Washington reported Saturday night hearing gunshots south of the residence. Officers were unable to locate.

 

All other offenses

A caller in the 300 block of East Main Street in Washington reported Friday morning his ex-wife was still contacting him. The incident is under investigation.

A bicycle was reported abandoned Friday evening on the KeWash Trail in Washington. Officers responded and retrieved the bike.

A caller in the 1500 block of North Sixth Avenue in Washington reported Sunday night that a couple of juveniles kept ringing the doorbell and they were throwing rocks at the windows. One subject had a lighter. Officers responded. The juveniles went into an apartment building. Officers spoke with a neighbor who will inform the juveniles’ mother.

 

Family offense non violent

A young girl was reported outside a residence in the 300 block of East Jefferson Street in Washington Sunday night screaming and no one was around. Officers responded. An older sibling had fallen asleep. The parents came home.

 

Public service contact

A pipe with an uncovered cap was reported Saturday afternoon at North Fourth Avenue and East Fifth Street in Washington. Officers responded. The cap won’t say on due to a piece being broken. City workers were notified.

 

Suspicious activity

Subjects were reported yelling at each other Friday evening in the 100 block of Lake Darling road in Brighton. Officers responded. It was a misunderstanding.

A caller in the 100 block of First Street in Kalona reported Sunday afternoon that a suspicious subject came to the business three times during the day harassing her. He had also touched her inappropriately, she reported. Officers attempted to locate the subject. Charges are pending for simple assault.

A suspicious item was reported located in the 500 block of North D Avenue in Washington Sunday evening. Officers responded. The incident was documented.

 

Welfare check

A welfare check was requested Friday night on a subject in the 1000 block of Fifth Street in Wellman. Officers responded. The subject was fine.

 

Civil dispute

A subject was reportedly demolishing a residence in the 300 block of Center Street in West Chester without a permit. Officers spoke with the caller. The incident was documented.
