Arrests

Hung Kim Mai, 44, of Iowa City, was arrested Saturday night at Highway 218 in Ainsworth for driving while intoxicated.

Trent Dwight Cobb, 21, of Kalona, was arrested Sunday morning in the 800 block of Second Place in Kalona for public intoxication.

 

Charges filed

Miguel Alexander Lopez, 14, of Washington, was charged Sunday with possession of a controlled substance.

 

Traffic accidents

A road department worker was reportedly involved in a traffic accident with a horse and buggy Friday morning at 14th Street and Highway 22 in Wellman. Officers responded. Under $1,500 damage was reported.

A two-vehicle accident was reported Friday afternoon at Highway 1 and Lexington Avenue in Washington. Teresa Ann Lewis of Washington was cited for unsafe passing.

A vehicle vs. deer accident was reported Friday afternoon at G36 and Waters Edge in Washington. Over $1,500 damage was reported. The vehicle was towed.

A loud noise was reported Saturday night in the 600 block of East Polk Street in Washington and the caller saw a vehicle driving off. Pieces of the car were reported in the roadway. Officers responded.

A caller in the 200 block of North Van Buren Street in Brighton reported Sunday afternoon that a vehicle had backed into her vehicle. Information was exchanged. The incident was documented.

A vehicle vs. deer accident was reported Sunday afternoon at Highway 218 in Ainsworth. Officers, Washington County Ambulance, Washington County Rescue, Ainsworth QRS and Ainsworth Fire responded. The caller and his friend had lacerations. Both subjects refused transport.

A vehicle vs. deer accident was reported Sunday night at Highway 218 in Riverside. Officers responded. The vehicle was towed.

Traffic other

Vehicles were reported mud running at 130th and Iowa River Road in Riverside Saturday night. Officers responded. Two vehicles were reported stuck. The vehicles were left to avoid further damage to the roadway. Information was given to County Roads if restitution is needed.

A car was reported Saturday night at Quince Avenue and 180th Street in Riverside. It was a dirt road and the caller did not believe the vehicle had intended to go on the road. The vehicle got stuck. Officers responded. The incident was documented.

A vehicle was reported Sunday morning at 230th and W61 in Washington that appeared to have been mud running. A written warning was given.

A vehicle reportedly did a brake stand Sunday afternoon in the 600 block of East Washington Street in Washington. Officers were unable to locate.

 

Fire calls

A field fire was reported Friday morning in the 1300 block of 120th Street in Wellman. The fire was reported close to a windmill and about 500 feet from a propane tank. Wellman Fire and officers responded. The fire was extinguished. Subjects will dispose of remaining fireworks and make it right with the landowners.

A grass fire was reported Friday afternoon in the 2900 block of 290th Street in Crawfordsville. Subjects were burning trash and it got out of control. Crawfordsville Fire and officers responded. The fire was extinguished.

 

Physical child abuse

An officer in the city of Washington reported Saturday morning assisting the Department of Human Services. The incident was documented.

 

Drug/narcotics violation

A marijuana smell was reported Friday night in the 200 block of West Main Street in Washington. Officers were unable to locate.

 

Motor vehicle theft

A caller in the 300 block of West Jefferson Street in Washington reported Saturday afternoon that she loaned her vehicle to a subject in Washington and it had since been taken without the loaned party or the owner’s consent. Officers responded. The vehicle was located in Muscatine.

 

Burglary

A caller in the 300 block of North B Avenue in Washington reported Sunday afternoon that her back door was kicked in. Officers responded. The screen door was damaged. No entry was made. The incident was documented.

 

Fraud

A caller in the 100 block of East Monroe Street in Washington reported Saturday afternoon a charge of $2.51 was made against his account. The incident was documented.

 

All other thefts

A caller in the 300 block of North Marion Avenue in Washington reported Sunday morning that his son stole an item from a neighbor. At the time the neighbor did not want to press charges. Officers responded. The item was returned. The incident was documented.

A gas drive-off in the amount of $60 was reported Sunday afternoon in the 300 block of East Washington Street in Washington. The incident was documented.

Two lawn ornaments were reported missing from a lawn in the 200 block of F Place in Kalona Sunday afternoon. The incident was documented.

 

Vandalism

A vehicle was reported vandalized Saturday morning in the 1400 block of J Place in Kalona. After cleaning the mess off, the caller reported the vehicle wouldn’t start and there was possibly something in the gas tank. Officers spoke with the caller. The incident was documented.

Vandalism was reported to a vehicle Sunday afternoon in the 2300 block of Spruce Avenue in Washington. Officers were advised.

The front door of a business in the 200 block of North Madison Street in Washington was reportedly vandalized Monday morning. The incident was documented.

 

Disorderly conduct

A subject was reported running around the apartment complex in the 300 block of West Washington Boulevard in Washington since early in the morning. He was reported up and down the stairs, sweating profusely, and screaming. At one point he tried to enter the caller’s apartment. Officers responded. The subject was transported to Washington County Hospital. Charges will be filed.

A subject was reported out of control in the 100 block of West Washington Street in Washington and breaking things Saturday evening. Officers responded. The subject left with his pastor.

A caller in the 300 block of North Marion Avenue in Washington reported Monday morning that a subject would not quiet down for the night. Officers responded.

 

Trespass

A caller in the 1300 block of East Washington Street in Washington reported Saturday morning that subjects from Rent-A-Center were at her residence banging on the doors and windows and honking their horn in an attempt to collect money. Officers responded and advised the company not to return without the proper paperwork or the homeowner’s consent.

 

Animal complaint

A barking dog was reported Saturday evening in the 2600 block of Wayland road in Washington. Officers were unable to locate.

A barking dog was reported Sunday evening in the 300 block of West Street in West Chester. Officers were unable to locate.

 

DP&Q

Loud music was reported Saturday morning in the 400 block of East Washington Street in Washington. Officers responded. The music was turned down.

Loud music was reported coming from a trailer at Parkside Estates Road in Washington. Officers were unable to locate.

 

All other offenses

A subject was reported walking on the Wayland Road in Washington Saturday evening. Officers responded. His father picked him up. The incident was documented.

 

Runaway/missing person

A caller in the 100 block of West Washington Street in Washington reported Saturday morning that her 16-year-old son had not come home the previous night. Officers responded. The subject later returned.

 

Family offense non violent

A caller in the 100 block of Highway 92 in West Chester reported Saturday morning that she had a court order stating that she got to have her children all that day and their father did not bring them. The incident was documented for civil purposes.

An officer was requested Sunday afternoon in the 300 block of East Fifth Street in Washington in reference to a situation with the caller’s foster child. Officers responded. The incident was documented.

 

Suspicious activity

A suspicious van was reported in the 500 block of West Jefferson was reported Saturday afternoon in the 500 block of West Jefferson Street in Washington. Officers responded. The subject was working on a property.

A caller in the 600 block of West Madison Street in Washington reported Saturday evening leaving home and locking the door. She reported when she returned the door was unlocked and cracked open. Officers responded. Unfounded.

A suspicious light was reported at a residence in the 1300 block of East Washington Street in Washington Saturday evening. Officers responded. Everything was fine.

A subject was reported in a parking lot in the 100 block of E Avenue in Kalona Saturday night. Officers responded. The subject was leaving the area.

A caller in the 500 block of South B Avenue in Washington reported a suspicious video on the Internet Sunday afternoon. Officers responded. The video was fraudulent.

Four juveniles reportedly threw something at the caller’s vehicle Sunday afternoon in the 600 block of East Washington Street in Washington. Officers responded and spoke with the juveniles’ parents. A verbal warning was given.
