Arrests

Aristonico J. Rodriguez III, 32, of Agency, was arrested Thursday afternoon in the 200 block of East Washington Street in Washington on a Johnson County warrant for probation violation on possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver — Marijuana, and drug tax stamp violation.

 

Traffic accidents

A car was reported on fire after going into a ditch in the 1200 block of Dogwood Avenue in Wellman. No injuries. Officers advised there was no accident. The caller had swerved to miss a deer and went into the ditch. The caller attempted to get out, which resulted in the fire. The vehicle was towed. Rollin Eugene Barnes was cited for violation of a restricted license.

A caller in the 500 block of Highway 1 in Washington reported Thursday evening that his truck was hit while he was inside a store. The incident was documented.

A vehicle vs. deer accident was reported Friday morning at Ginkgo Avenue and 105th Street in Wellman. A deer tag was issued. The incident was documented.

 

Traffic other

A caller in the 600 block of East Jefferson Street in Washington reported Thursday morning that a dark green car had been parked in front of their residence for the last five days without moving. The tires were chalked.

 

Fire calls

A fire was reported in a kitchen of a residence in the 1500 block of Willow Boulevard in Brighton Thursday morning and it was spreading to the rest of the house. Brighton Fire Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s office, Lockridge Fire Department and Wayland Fire Department also responded. The fire was extinguished.

A fire alarm was reported Thursday afternoon in the 1000 block of South Iowa Avenue in Washington. It was a false alarm.

 

Stolen property

A shoplifter was reported Thursday evening in the 2400 block of Highway 92 in Washington. Helen Jean Hollingsworth, 57, of Washington, was cited for fifth-degree theft.

 

All other thefts

A credit card that was reported stolen from a residence in the 800 block of Third Street in Kalona was reported used twice in Kalona and once in Washington to purchase gas. A stop had been put on the card and it was returned to the resident’s room.

A wallet was reported missing Thursday afternoon in the 2400 block of Highway 92 in Washington.

 

Liquor law violations

An underage drinking party was reported Thursday night in the 800 block of Fourth Street in Wellman. Cited for possession of alcohol under the legal age were: Joshua Yoder, 19, of Sigourney; Ray Troyer, 19, of Kalona; Ryan Hoffman, 18, of Parnell; Aspen Van Fleet, 17, of Coralville; Brooke Hand, 18, of West Burlington; hunter Allee, 19, of Kalona; and Chandler Hames, 17, of Coralville.

 

All other offenses

A caller in the 2500 block of Highway 218 in Ainsworth reported Thursday afternoon seeing an object travelling west of 218 that appeared to be on fire. The caller believed it was a plane crashing. Officers were unable to locate.

 

Suspicious activity

A caller in the 300 block of North C Avenue in Washington reported Thursday afternoon hearing people running upstairs and the tenant wasn’t home. The apartment was secure. The tenant responded. Everything was fine.

 

Mental subject

A caller in the 300 block of North C Avenue in Washington reported Thursday evening someone was trying to get out of her open window. Officers responded. Unfounded.

 

Public service contact

A caller in the 400 block of West Washington Street in Washington reported Thursday afternoon a neighbor got into the passenger side of his vehicle and then couldn’t get out. Officers helped the subject out of the vehicle and into a residence. No problem.

 

Welfare check

Two subjects were reported walking down the middle of the road Thursday evening in the 400 block of Ninth Avenue in Washington. Officers were unable to locate.
