Arrests

Brinn Kathryn Murphy, 23, of Ainsworth; Jacob Daniel Duane Ruenger, 23, of Washington; Travis Rhode Hodson, 31, of Washington; and Brent Allen Sweeting, 36, of Ainsworth were all arrested Saturday morning in the 500 block of East Seventh Street in Washington for disorderly conduct.

Dustin Michael Versteeg, 32, of Oskaloosa, was arrested Saturday afternoon in the 200 block of High Avenue E in Oskaloosa for driving while barred. Subject will be extradited to Washington County Jail.

Virginia Bobbitt, 57, of Washington, was arrested Monday morning in the 300 block of North C Avenue in Washington for false report to a public safety entity.

 

Traffic accidents

A two-vehicle accident was reported Friday morning at South Iowa Avenue and East Madison Street in Washington. Over $1,500 damage was reported. Joshua Pickering of Brighton was cited for failure to obey a traffic signal.

A traffic accident was reported Friday afternoon in the 2400 block of Highway 92 in Washington. A vehicle had struck a pole. Under $1,500 damage was reported.

An accident with no injuries was reported Friday afternoon in the 1200 block of Highway 1 in Kalona. The Iowa State Patrol handled the report.

An accident was reported Friday evening at Eighth Avenue and Highway 22 in Wellman. Officers responded.

A vehicle reportedly hit a telephone box Saturday morning in the 900 block of East 15th Street in Washington. The incident was documented.

A vehicle reportedly slid into parked cars Saturday morning in the 900 block of Seventh Street in Wellman. Angela Avery of Keota was cited for failure to have insurance – accident related.

A vehicle reportedly hit a tree Saturday night in the 1700 block of Highway 22 in Wellman. Washington County Ambulance, Wellman Fire, Wellman QRS, officers and Aircare responded. One subject was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

 

Traffic other

A school bus stop arm violation was reported Friday afternoon at Hickory Avenue and Highway 22 in Wellman.

 

Fire calls

Smoke was reported coming from the attic of a residence in the 400 block of West Washington Street in Washington Friday afternoon. Washington Fire Department responded.

A house fire was reported Friday evening in the 600 block of North Fifth Avenue in Washington. Five residents resided in the house and all were accounted for. Washington Fire Department, officers and Washington County Ambulance responded. The fire was extinguished.

Smoke was reported coming from a house in the 300 block of West Sixth Street in Washington. Washington Fire Department responded.

A smoke alarm was reported Sunday night in the elevator shaft of a business in the 3100 block of Highway 22 in Riverside. Riverside Fire, Kalona Fire, Ainsworth Fire, Washington County Ambulance and Lone Tree Fire responded. No fire was located. There was a malfunction with the elevator and maintenance will look into it.

 

Assault

A caller in the 500 block of North Iowa Avenue in Washington reported Sunday morning being in a physical altercation. Officers responded. Nothing physical. The parties were separated.

A possible domestic situation was reported Monday morning in the 100 block of North Taylor Street in Brighton. Officers responded. Verbal only.

 

Motor vehicle theft

A caller in the 1500 block of North Fourth Avenue in Washington reported Saturday morning that her son and his girlfriend had the caller’s van and they were not supposed to. The incident was documented.

A caller reported Sunday afternoon her nephew drove her vehicle to Washington and someone took it without permission. The vehicle was located in the 700 block of Monroe Street in Ainsworth. Unfounded.

 

Fraud

A caller in the 2200 block of Yucca Avenue in Ainsworth reported Friday afternoon applying for a loan through the bank, then a different company sent her an email saying she had been approved for the loan. They were given all her personal information. She was advised to put the money on a green dot card and now the money is gone. Her bank account was also accessed. The incident was documented.

 

All other thefts

Tax refund money was reportedly put on a credit card Friday afternoon in the 2500 block of 275th Street in Washington and when the caller tried using it there was zero balance. H&R Block stated transactions had been made and they were unable to trace it. The card has been replaced.

A caller in the 300 block of East Main Street in Washington reported Sunday morning two metal bowls were missing from her kitchen cupboard. Officers responded. The incident was documented.

A gas drive-off in the amount of $22 was reported Sunday afternoon in the 1000 block of West Madison Street in Washington. Officers spoke with the driver, who returned and paid.

 

Intimidation/harassment

A caller in the 300 block of West Main Street in Washington reported Friday afternoon being harassed by another tenant. The subjects were advised to stay away from each other.

A caller in the 1000 block of West Madison Street in Washington reported Saturday afternoon harassment and threats in the workplace. The incident was documented.

Family members were reportedly harassing the caller Sunday morning in the 100 block of West Third Street in Riverside. Officers spoke with all parties. They were advised to have no further contact.

 

Trespass

Officers reported Sunday afternoon stopping a vehicle in the 100 block of South 13th Avenue in Washington after speaking with the manager of a local business. The subjects were advised not to return to the business or trespass charges would be filed.

 

Liquor law violations

An underage party was reported in the 800 block of Fourth Street in Wellman Sunday evening. Officers responded. Unfounded.

 

Animal complaints

A dog was reported in the 500 block of South Seventh Avenue in Washington Friday afternoon without any shelter and shivering. Officers responded. The dog can get onto the porch and had blankets. The owner lets the dog inside every hour. The dog was barking on arrival and the owner was made aware of that.

A barking dog was reported Sunday morning in the 300 block of East Washington Street in Washington. Officers were unable to locate.

 

All other offenses

A caller in the 800 block of West Washington Boulevard in Washington reported Sunday morning it sounded as if someone was trying to get into her back door. Officers responded.

A subject reportedly scooped snow back onto the caller’s sidewalk Sunday morning in the 90 block of West First Street in Riverside. There is a no-contact order in effect. Officers spoke with an employee, who will get the snow removed.

 

Family offense non violent

Two hang-up 911 calls were reported Sunday morning in the 1100 block of East Second Street in Washington. The subject was intoxicated. Officers spoke with both parties. The incident was documented.

 

Suspicious activity

A caller in the 600 block of North D Avenue in Washington reported Saturday morning a vehicle pulled in front of her residence four times causing her flood lights to turn on. Officers were unable to locate anyone.

 

Welfare check

A welfare check was requested Friday morning on a subject in the 1100 block of Highway 22 in Wellman. Officers spoke with the caller. The incident was documented.

A welfare check was requested Saturday evening in the 800 block of South Iowa Avenue in Washington.

 

Civil dispute

A caller in the 3100 block of 140th Street in Riverside reported Saturday afternoon her neighbor was pushing snow into her front yard and the middle of the road. The caller was referred to township trustees. The incident was documented.
