Arrests

Donald Howard Steingrubey, 30, of Washington, was arrested Friday afternoon ion the 1300 block of East Washington Street in Washington on a Arvado, Colo. Warrant for pawnbroken – false info by seller, theft, and five counts of forgery – check/commercial instrument.

Jerry Ray Sparks, 22, of Washington, was arrested Friday afternoon in the 20 block of Parkside Estates road in Washington for domestic abuse simple assault.

Joseph Patrick Mooney of Lone Tree was arrested Saturday evening at Highway 22 and Orange Avenue in Kalona for operating while intoxicated.

Miguel Anjel Arciga Hernandez, 30, of Ainsworth, was arrested Sunday morning at Railroad and Fourth Street in Ainsworth for operating while intoxicated, open container, no driver’s license and possession of drug paraphernalia. Charges of possession of a controlled substance are pending lab results.

 

Charges filed

Charges were filed on Candido Josue Morataya, 31, of Washington for possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia.

Anna Marie Walker, 16, of Riverside, was charged Saturday night at 220th and Highway 218 in Ainsworth with operating while intoxicated, minor in possession of alcohol. Charges of possession of a controlled substance are pending lab results.

 

Traffic accidents

A caller reported backing into another vehicle Friday afternoon in the 100 block of South Marion Avenue in Washington. Officers responded. Information was exchanged.

A caller reported Friday afternoon her vehicle was struck in the 2400 block of Highway 92 in Washington. Officers responded. The incident was documented.

A vehicle vs. deer accident was reported Friday night in the 2000 block of Riverside Road in Washington. The incident was documented.

An accident was reported Saturday afternoon in the 2400 block of Highway 92 in Washington. Information was exchanged.

A vehicle vs. deer accident was reported Saturday evening in the 1900 block of 170th Street in Wellman. Officers were advised.

A two-vehicle accident was reported Sunday afternoon in the 2400 block of Highway 92 in Washington. Officers responded. Information was exchanged.

A subject reportedly rolled a full-sized tractor Sunday evening in the 100 block of Hickory Street in Kalona. Kalona QRS, officers and Washington County Ambulance responded. The subject was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A vehicle vs. deer accident was reported Monday morning at Highway 218 and 310th Street in Crawfordsville. Officers were advised. The incident was documented.

 

Traffic other

Two motorcycles were reported driving at a high rate of speed Friday afternoon in the 200 block of West Main Street in Brighton. Officers responded. The drivers were counseled.

A truck reportedly screeched its tires Saturday morning in the 800 block of South 12th Avenue in Washington then pulled into a nearby driveway. The caller reported the driver was possibly intoxicated. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle.

A subject was reported Saturday afternoon in the 600 block of Monroe Street in Ainsworth driving his motorcycle at a high rate of speed and there were lots of kids in the area for Fun Days. Officers were unable to locate.

A vehicle was reported driving erratically Sunday afternoon at Kiwi Avenue in Washington. Officers were unable to locate.

 

Fire calls

Washington Rescue was dispatched Friday morning to East Washington and 11th Street in Washington to assist a broken down semi with leaking fluids.

A semi trailer was reported on fire Saturday morning in the 1000 block of SW 540th Street in Wellman. Wellman Fire and Rescue responded. Kalona was requested for mutual aid.

 

Weapon violations

Subjects were reported shooting handguns at a target in the 300 block of Mather Street in Ainsworth. Officers spoke with the subjects.

 

Fraud

A fraud was reported Saturday morning in the 20 block of East First Street in Riverside. Persons out of New York had used stolen credit cards to make a $22,568 purchase. The incident was documented.

 

Prowlers

A caller in the 600 block of 12th Street in Kalona reported Sunday morning someone tried to break into his daughter’s bedroom window. The screen was bent and she saw a hand reach in. Officers responded. The incident was documented.

A caller in the 1600 block of Highway 92 in West Chester reported Sunday morning that a subject pulled up to her house and attempted to enter her garage. He then climbed onto her porch and stated he was looking for something. Officers responded. The subject was located at his residence. His father will keep an eye on him to avoid further issues.

 

All other thefts

A caller reported Friday night that someone used her debit card in the 500 block of South Highway 1 in Washington to make an $18 purchase. There was also a $140 purchase on the card. Officers spoke with the caller. It was a civil issue.

A gas drive-off was reported Saturday morning in the 300 block of East Washington Street in Washington. Officers responded.

Theft of funds from a debit card was reported Saturday afternoon in the 1200 block of North Iowa Avenue in Washington. The caller had court ordered custody of another person’s children and the funds were for their care. Officers responded. The incident was under investigation.

The street sign in the 1200 block of Hoot Owl Hollow in Keota was reported stolen Sunday morning. The incident was documented.

 

Vandalism

A mailbox was reported knocked down Saturday morning in the 1400 block of Fir Avenue in Kalona. The incident was documented.

Someone reportedly damaged the concession stand at Case Field was reported damaged Sunday afternoon in the 1000 block of East Van Buren Street in Washington. Officers responded.

 

Intimidation/harassment

A caller in the 300 block of East Washington Street in Washington reported Saturday afternoon a subject was harassing her. Officers responded.

A caller in the 800 block of South Third Avenue in Washington reported Saturday evening receiving a harassing text message. The text was sent to the wrong number. Unfounded.

Subjects conducting a paranormal investigation in Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona reported Saturday night a carload of people kept driving by causing a disturbance. Officers attempted to locate.

 

Disorderly conduct

A 15-year-old subject was reported Saturday afternoon causing problems in the 1000 block of West Madison Street in Washington. Officers responded.

 

Trespass

A caller in the 200 block of North Ella Street in Riverside reported Friday afternoon his 24-year-old daughter, who had not been in his home for over a year, entered his residence while he was gone and took some items that belonged to her. The incident is under investigation.

Evelyn Dee Watters, 58, of Washington, was cited Friday evening in the 200 block of West Madison Street in Washington for criminal trespass.

A caller in the 2400 block of Highway 92 in Washington reported Saturday morning a subject was in the store and he had been banned. When asked to leave, the subject complied but said he would be back. Officers spoke with the subject.

 

Illegal dumping

An officer was requested Saturday morning in the 200 block of West Washington Street in Washington in reference to three large bags of trash that had been thrown in the dumpster. Officers responded.

 

Liquor law violations

Cited for Minor in possession of alcohol Saturday morning in the 100 block of North Knisel Street in Riverside were: Joseph Gregory Esgar, 17; Hailey Renea Lloyd, 19; Henri Beaumont Lower, 18; Zachary Allen Dunn, 19; and Pierre Arturo Zegarra, 20.

 

Animal complaints

A barking dog was reported Friday morning in the 1600 block of North Iowa Avenue in Washington. Officers were unable to locate.

A barking dog was reported Saturday morning in the 500 block of Fifth Street in Wellman. Officers responded.

A dog in the 400 block of Lincoln Street in Ainsworth was reportedly attacked Saturday afternoon by two pit bulls. Officers spoke with all parties. Jan Lynn Kane of Ainsworth was cited for allowing a dog to run at large.

A loose dog was reported Sunday night in the 400 block of Eighth Avenue in Wellman. Officers responded.

A bat was reported in a residence in the 300 block of West Washington Street in Brighton. Officers responded and removed the bat.

 

DP&Q

Possible illegal burning was reported Friday morning in the 900 block of East Madison Street in Washington. Officers responded. Unfounded.

Someone was reported lighting fireworks Saturday evening in the 1000 block of North Second Avenue in Washington. Officers were unable to locate.

Loud music was reported Saturday night in the 800 bloc of Ninth Avenue in Wellman. Officers responded.

 

All other offenses

Possible illegal burning was reported Friday afternoon in the 600 block of East Washington Street in Washington. Officers responded. The subject was burning yard waste. No problem.

A gas drive-off in the amount of $35 was reported Saturday afternoon in the 1000 block of West Madison Street in Washington. Officers contacted the subject. The subject advised he filled two gas cans then went inside and purchased other items and the gas cost must not have been added. The subject advised he would return and pay.

A caller reported Sunday morning her husband’s wallet was lost or stolen Friday, possibly in the 2400 block of Highway 92 in Washington. The wallet was entered into the system.

 

Family offense non violent

A caller reported Friday evening that she was trying to pick up her children in the 3100 block of White Oak Circle Drive in Riverside but their father would not let her. Officers spoke with the caller and the father. The children stayed at the father’s residence for the night. The caller left and is going to pursue a third party mediator before going to court.

 

Suspicious activity

A caller reported Friday afternoon that a white SUV was parked at her residence in the 1500 block of Highway 1 in Washington and someone was going in and out with boxes. Officers responded. Nothing was missing. White van was not at the residence.

The back door of a business in the 300 block of First Street in Kalona was reported standing open Saturday morning. Officers responded.

A light was reported on in a house in the 500 block of South C Avenue in Washington that was supposed to be abandoned. Officers responded. A message was left for the owner. The incident was documented.

Suspicious activity with a silver van was reported Sunday morning at South Fourth Avenue and Madison Street in Washington. Officers were unable to locate.

Larch Avenue in Kalona reported Sunday night a subject was taking pictures of her family. Officers spoke with the subject

 

Public service contact

A caller requested assistance Saturday afternoon making contact with her daughter in the 2700 block of Coppock Road in Washington for a family emergency. Officers responded.

 

Welfare check

A subject was reported walking in the 2900 block of Highway 92 in Ainsworth Friday night. Officers were unable to locate.

 

Civil dispute

A caller in the 800 block of South Fourth Avenue in Washington reported Saturday afternoon a problem with a neighbor involving the property line and planted flowers. The parties will speak with the city engineer.
