Arrests

Randall Lee Berg, 59, of Kalona, was arrested Friday morning in the 400 block of Hickory Street in Kalona for fraudulent practices – operating a meat/poultry establishment with out a license.

Andrew Amos Griffin, 42, of Washington, was arrested Saturday morning in the 100 block of West Washington Street in Washington for probation violation on sex offender registry.

Virginia Lynn Bobbitt, 57, of Washington, was arrested Saturday afternoon in the 300 block of North C Avenue in Washington on a Polk County warrant for failure to appear on a charge of disorderly conduct.

Devin Troy Weimer, 20, of Brighton, was arrested Saturday night at Violet Avenue and Highway 92 in Ainsworth for possession of a controlled substance hash oil, possession of a controlled substance marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding.

Kenneth Dylan Whitehead, 20, of Washington, was arrested Sunday evening in the 2400 block of Highway 92 in Washington for fifth-degree theft.

 

Search warrant

Officers responded Sunday morning conducting a search warrant in the 3000 block of Dogwood Avenue in Brighton.

 

Traffic accidents

A two-vehicle accident was reported Friday morning in the 500 block of B Avenue in Kalona. Officers, Washington County Ambulance, Kalona First Responders, Kalona Fire and Kalona Rescue responded. One patient was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Charges are pending.

A vehicle accident with no injuries was reported Friday afternoon in the 200 block of North Van Buren Street in Brighton. Officers responded. Information was exchanged.

A two-vehicle accident was reported Friday afternoon at E Avenue and Ninth Street in Kalona. Officers responded. Sherry Ingalls of Riverside was cited for failure to yield on entering a through highway. Over $1,500 damage was reported.

A vehicle was reported in the ditch Sunday evening at Highway 218 and 320th Street in Crawfordsville. Officers responded.

A vehicle was reported in a ditch Sunday night at highway 1 and 150th Street in Kalona. Officers responded. The incident was documented.

 

Disabled vehicles

A vehicle was reported parked in the 500 block of 13th Street in Wellman for over 24 hours. The vehicle was towed.

 

Traffic other

A vehicle was reported parked too far from the curb Friday afternoon in the 300 block of East Main Street in Washington. Officers spoke with the owner.

A caller in the 300 block of East Washington Street in Washington reported Friday night that someone shattered his windshield. Officers responded. The victim declined to press charges.

Two 4-wheelers were reported on a roadway in the 200 block of West 18th Street in Washington. Officers spoke with the caller.

 

Fire calls

A foul smell was reported Saturday afternoon in the basement of a residence in the 100 block of West Fountain Street in Brighton and the caller could see a red glow in the furnace. Alliant and Brighton gas were contacted.

An out building fire was reported Sunday evening in the 5100 block of Highway 1 SW in Kalona. Kalona Fire, Riverside Fire, Wellman Fire, Kalona QRS and officers responded.

A carbon monoxide detector was reported going off Monday morning in the 700 block of East Main Street in Washington. Washington Fire Department and Alliant responded.

 

Sexual child abuse

A possible case of sexual child abuse was reported Friday afternoon in Washington. The incident was under investigation.

 

Burglary

A caller in the 300 block of West Washington Street in Washington reported Friday afternoon her apartment door had been kicked in. Officers responded. A report will be filed.

 

All other thefts

The back place of a vehicle in the 700 block of North Marion Avenue in Washington was reported missing Friday evening.

A caller reported Saturday morning that he attempted to redeem a lottery ticket at a business in the 1500 block of East Washington Street in Washington and the clerk advised he was not a winner, but the caller believed he was. The caller said the clerk was acting suspicious. Officers spoke with the clerk who said the ticket was not a winner and was thrown in the trash bin. Officers notified the manager.

A caller in the 300 block of North C Avenue in Washington reported Saturday morning medication was missing from her purse. The incident was documented.

A caller in the 500 block of South Mechanic Street in Brighton reported Saturday afternoon that her sister was watching her dog and gave it away. Officers responded. The subjects have three days to return the dog. The incident was documented.

A possible break-in was reported Sunday afternoon at East 15th Street and Madison Avenue in Wellman. Officers responded. An outside sign was missing.

 

Vandalism

A caller in the 2800 block of 245th Street in Ainsworth reported Friday morning a pick up was following him the previous night. The caller heard what sounded like a gunshot. When he arrived home he discovered his vehicle had been hit with a paint ball. Officers responded. The incident was documented.

 

Disorderly conduct

A domestic situation was reported Friday night in the 2200 block of 250th Street in Washington. Officers responded.

 

Trespass

A caller in the 2500 block of Underwood Avenue in Ainsworth reported Friday afternoon the property manager of the apartment let himself into the caller’s apartment without notice. Officers responded. The caller will contact the management department to file a complaint.

A caller in the 100 block of South Sixth Street in Kalona reported Saturday afternoon a subject was not supposed to be in the trailer court. Officers spoke with the subject. The incident was documented.

 

Liquor law violations

A possible underage drinking party was reported Saturday night in the 3200 block of Elm Avenue in Brighton. Officers responded. Everything appeared normal.

 

Animal complaints

Kathleen Ann Peiffer, 58, of West Chester, was cited Saturday morning in the 300 block of Center Street in West Chester for keeping horses within city limits.

Four horses reportedly left in a trailer at Redwood Avenue and 220th Street in Washington Saturday afternoon. Officers responded.

A loose dog was reported Sunday afternoon in the 400 block of East Main Street in Washington. Officers were unable to locate.

A small dog was reported running loose in traffic Sunday afternoon in the 1000 block of West Madison Street in Washington. Officers were unable to catch the dog.

 

DP&Q

A loud party was reported Saturday night in the 100 block of North Second Avenue in Washington. Officers responded.

Loud music was reported coming from a residence in the 300 block of West Washington Street in Washington Sunday evening. Officers responded.

 

All other offenses

A possible violation of a no-contact order was reported Friday evening in the 800 block of North Sixth Avenue in Washington. The incident is under investigation.

A caller in the 1400 block of J Place in Kalona reported Sunday morning hearing a loud explosion. Officers were unable to locate.

 

Family offense non violent

A caller in the 2200 block of Yucca Avenue in Ainsworth reported Sunday afternoon his 19-year-old grandson was tearing up the residence. The subject was throwing items from the house out in the driveway. Officers responded. The grandson was told he was not welcome at the residence and if he returned he would be arrested for trespass.

A caller in the 2100 block of Lexington Boulevard in Washington reported Sunday afternoon that his 11-year-old brother was out of control. Officers responded. The subject was counseled. The mother was advised to contact the county attorney’s office.

 

Suspicious activity

A caller in the 100 block of West Fountain Street in Brighton reported Saturday evening he believed a 4-wheeler stored in the garage had almost been stolen. The incident was documented.

Two subjects were reported Sunday afternoon at East Madison Street and South Ninth Avenue in Washington carrying as pistol and rifle. Officers were unable to locate.

 

Welfare check

A welfare check was requested Saturday morning on a subject in the 1800 block of 315th Street in Brighton. Officers responded.
