Arrests

Johnathan Shuffield, 22, of Brighton, was arrested Saturday night in the 500 block of South Mechanic Street in Brighton for probation violation on second-degree theft.

Rudy Alexander Curiel, 24, of Washington, was arrested Sunday morning at Highway 1 and West Monroe Street in Washington for public intoxication.

Shody James Hunt, 35, of Cedar Rapids, was arrested Sunday afternoon in the 500 block of First St. W. in Cedar Rapids for failure to appear for mittimus.

 

Traffic accidents

A pickup reportedly went through an intersection Friday afternoon at Sixth Street and J Avenue in Kalona. The caller confronted the driver, who stated he was in a hurry. Officers were advised.

A truck vs. tractor accident was reported Friday afternoon in the 2700 block of Highway 92 in Washington. No injuries were reported. Information was exchanged.

An accident was reported Saturday afternoon at West Madison Street and South E Avenue in Washington. Officers, Washington County Ambulance, Washington Fire and Washington County Rescue responded. Victoria Ann Bennett of Washington was cited for failure to stop at a safe and assured distance. One subject was transported to Washington County Hospital and Clinics.

A vehicle vs. deer accident was reported Saturday afternoon in the 3100 block of Highway 218 in Crawfordsville. Officers were advised. The incident was documented.

A two-vehicle accident was reported Saturday afternoon at 190th and Ginkgo in West Chester. Officers, Washington County Ambulance, Wellman Rescue, Wellman QRS and West Chester QRS responded. No injuries were reported. The vehicles were towed. Gary Bass of Iowa City was cited for failure to obey a stop sign.

A vehicle reportedly lost control and rolled in a field in the 3000 block of Highway 1 in Washington Sunday afternoon. Officers responded. The vehicle was towed.

A vehicle accident was reported Monday morning in the 200 block of North Benton Street in Brighton. Officers, Brighton First Responders, Brighton Fire, Washington County Ambulance, Alliant and a tow truck responded. The car hit a power line pole. Gerald Anthony Landstrum18, of Washington, was cited for failure to maintain control and expired driver’s license.

A vehicle vs. deer accident was reported Monday morning at Highway 22 and Ramp Ramp in Riverside. The incident was documented.

 

Fire calls

A caller in the 700 block of 14th Street in Kalona reported Friday afternoon that someone was burning garbage near a residence and it appeared to have gotten out of control. Kalona Fire Department responded.

The curtain of a hog building was reported on fire Saturday morning in the 2500 block of 240th Street in Washington. Officers and Washington Fire Department responded. The fire was extinguished.

 

Drug/narcotics violation

Four subjects were reported in a vehicle in the 600 block of East Washington Street in Washington Saturday evening possibly smoking marijuana. Officers responded. No drugs or paraphernalia were located.

 

Assault

A caller in the 1000 block of Ninth Avenue in Wellman reported Saturday night that she was in a dispute with her mother and her mother’s boyfriend had assaulted her. Officers responded and spoke with all parties. Statements were provided to the county attorney. No charges.

 

Burglary

A business in the 1400 block of E Avenue in Kalona appeared to have been broken into Saturday morning. Officers responded. Nothing appeared to be missing.

 

Stolen property

A truck was reported missing Saturday morning at East Jackson and South Third Avenue in Washington. A subject advised the caller it was parked on a street nearby. Officers spoke with the owner. Officers believe it was a prank by the friend.

A bicycle was reported stolen Sunday evening in the 800 block of South Marion Avenue in Washington. Another bike was reported found in the caller’s yard. It was taken to the bike shed. The incident was documented.

 

All other thefts

A gas drive-off in the amount of $80.67 was reported Friday evening in the 300 block of East Washington Street in Washington. The incident was documented.

A bike was reported missing from a residence in the 100 block of East Second Street in Washington Sunday evening. The caller had a suspect. Officers attempted to contact the suspect. The incident was documented.

 

Intimidation/harassment

A caller in the 100 block of East Second Street in Washington reported Friday afternoon a subject was sending harassing text messages to her daughter. Officers spoke with the caller. The incident was documented.

A caller in the 500 block of South Mechanic Street in Brighton reported Friday evening that subjects were driving by her house and harassing her and her husband. Officers responded. The incident was documented.

A caller in the 3100 block of Highway 22 in Riverside reported Saturday afternoon that a subject was harassing him. Officers responded. All subjects agreed to have no further contact. The incident was documented.

A caller in the 500 block of Sixth Street in Wellman requested Sunday morning to have a deputy advise a former friend to stop calling and texting. Officers left a message for the subject.

A caller in the 1600 block of North Fifth Avenue in Washington requested Sunday afternoon for an officer to contact her former friend and ask him to cease all contact with her. Officers spoke with the caller and left a message for the subject.

 

Vandalism

A caller in the 1700 block of Spruce Avenue in Ainsworth reported Friday evening three subjects in a pickup had broken his 911 sign. The caller followed them and got the 911 sign back. While following them his window was damaged. Officers responded and spoke with a subject, who advised he would take care of the damages. The incident was documented.

Vandalism was reported Sunday morning to a garden in the 1000 block of Sixth Street in Wellman. The incident was documented.

Vandalism was reported Sunday afternoon to a house in the 300 block of Center Street in West Chester. Officers responded. Vandalism was to a yard stake. Officers spoke with suspects, who denied being on the caller’s property. The incident was documented.

 

Trespass

A caller in the 100 block of C Avenue in Kalona reported Friday night that neighbors had driven on his property to get to their residence. The caller had asked them to stop, but they continue to do it. Officers responded.

 

Public intoxication

An intoxicated subject was reported Sunday morning in the 3100 block of North C Avenue in Riverside. Officers responded.

 

DP&Q

Loud music was reported Saturday morning in the 200 block of A Avenue in Kalona. Officers responded. Greg Allen Albert of Kalona was cited.

Loud music was reported Saturday evening coming from a residence in the 300 block of East Street in West Chester.

Loud music was reported coming from a business in the 500 block of East Seventh Street in Washington Saturday night. Officers responded.

A loud party was reported Sunday morning in the 200 block of North Second Avenue in Washington. Officers responded.

 

All other offenses

A caller in the 2300 block of Yucca Avenue in Ainsworth requested Friday afternoon to speak with a deputy in reference to a domestic situation. Officers spoke with the caller. It was a civil issue.

A caller in the 700 block of 12th Avenue in Wellman reported Friday evening a dog bit his son. Officers responded.

A caller in the 2300 block of 150th Street in Kalona requested to speak with a deputy Friday night. Officers responded. A subject will leave for the evening.

A gas drive-off in the amount of $30.02 was reported Saturday afternoon in the 300 block of East Washington Street in Washington. Officers responded. The incident was documented.

A subject in the 500 block of South Eighth Avenue in Washington was reported Saturday afternoon throwing rocks into the caller’s yard. Officers responded and spoke with all subjects.

Three juveniles were reported shooting BB guns Saturday night in the 500 block of Old Military Road in Ainsworth. Officers spoke with all parties.

Subjects were reported fishing off a bridge Saturday night at Iowa River Road and Louisa/Washington Road in Riverside. Officers responded.

A caller in the 400 block of East Second Street in Washington reported Sunday morning her ex-boyfriend had taken her car and wouldn’t return the keys. Officers responded. It was a civil issue.

 

Runaway/missing persons

A caller in the 300 block of West 18th Street in Washington reported Friday night her daughter had not come home yet.

 

Suspicious activity

A suspicious subject was reported Friday morning in the 200 block of South Iowa Avenue in Washington. Officers were unable to locate.

A caller in the 800 block of North Eighth Avenue in Washington reported Friday night that a subject walked into her residence and walked out. Officers were unable to locate.

Two subjects were reported going door-to-door Saturday evening in the 800 block of South B Avenue in Washington. Officers responded and advised the subjects to leave town.

A suspicious item was reported left in the 200 block of East Washington Street in Washington Sunday morning. The incident was documented.
