Arrests

Colton Roy Barthelman, 22, of Kalona, was arrested Wednesday morning in the 1000 block of Highway 1 in Washington on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Mary Elizabeth Hyndman, 36, of Wellman, was arrested Wednesday afternoon at Sixth Avenue and Highway 22 in Wellman on a warrant for public intoxication and disorderly conduct.

Laurie Jean Tate, 48, of Nichols, was arrested Wednesday night in Washington County on a warrant for two counts of third-degree theft.

 

Warrant

Officers reported executing a search warrant on a vehicle in the 1000 block of West Madison Street in Washington Wednesday afternoon. A report will be filed.

Officers reported assisting with a search warrant Wednesday night in the 200 block of West Keokuk Avenue in Keota.

 

Traffic accidents

An accident was reported Wednesday morning in the 100 block of East Madison Street in Washington. Officers responded. Information was exchanged.

A car reportedly attempted to pass a tractor Wednesday afternoon at Highway 218 and 282nd Street in Crawfordsville, lost control and went into the ditch. The driver was complaining of leg pains. Officers, Crawfordsville Fire, Crawfordsville QRS and Washington County Rescue responded. One patient was transported to the Henry County Health Center. Cheyenne Geiger of Salem was cited for failure to maintain control.

A vehicle reportedly struck a piece of construction equipment Thursday morning at West Madison and South F Avenue in Washington. The driver reported not being injured, but the air bags had gone off. Officers responded. The vehicle was towed.

 

Traffic other

A caller in the 300 block of East Washington Street in Washington reported Wednesday evening having an on-going problem with a vehicle driving past his residence at a high rate of speed and revving the engine. Officers located the vehicle and counseled the driver. The driver denied the allegation.

 

Fire calls

A fully engulfed vehicle fire was reported Wednesday morning at 160th and Iowa River Road in Riverside. Lone Tree Fire, Riverside Fire and officers responded. The fire was extinguished. The vehicle was towed.

A fire alarm was reported Thursday morning at a residence in the 500 block of East Main Street in Brighton. Brighton Fire Department responded. No one was home and there was no sign of smoke or a fire.

 

Assault

A caller in the 1300 block of North Second Avenue in Washington reported Wednesday afternoon that her father assaulted her and a friend. Officers responded and spoke with all parties. The caller did not wish to pursue charges. The incident was documented.

 

Drug/narcotics violation

Possible drug activity was reported Wednesday afternoon at Sunset Park in Washington. Officers were unable to locate.

 

Bad checks

A caller in the 100 block of First Street in Riverside reported Wednesday evening that he cashed a $70 personal check for some people and the check wasn’t good. Officers attempted to contact the subjects.

 

All other thefts

Over 100 used batteries were reported stolen Wednesday morning in the 300 block of Oak Street in Riverside. Officers responded.

A caller in the 1300 block of North Marion Avenue in Washington reported Wednesday morning that she had been notified by her bank of charges to her debit card. Upon looking, she found her debit card was missing. The incident is under investigation.

A bankcard, food stamp card and cigarettes were reported missing from a residence in the 100 block of Highway 92 in West Chester. A subject was reported living in the driveway. Officers responded. The grandmother owns the house and doesn’t want to pursue charges. A probation officer will be contacted regarding probation violation on the subject living in the driveway. The incident was documented.

 

Intimidation/harassment

A caller in the 900 block of North Seventh Avenue in Washington reported Wednesday night that her 12-year-old daughter was getting harassing texts from a 12-year-old boy. Officers responded. The parties were advised to stop texting each other.

 

Intoxicated pedestrians

A caller in the 600 block of East Washington Street in Washington reported Wednesday morning that he is his 15-year-old niece’s guardian. The school had called to advise she was with her boyfriend and they are intoxicated. Officers responded. The subject was located and returned to her uncle.

 

Animal complaints

A dog reportedly bit a newspaper carrier Wednesday afternoon in the 100 block of Green Meadow Drive in Washington. Officers spoke with all parties. The dog was up to date on its shots.

A barking dog was reported Wednesday evening in the 800 block of First Place in Kalona. Officers responded.

 

All other offenses

An officer was requested Wednesday afternoon in the 600 block of South Fourth Avenue in Washington for an issue involving a student. Officers responded.

A caller reported locating a bike in the 300 block of South Iowa Avenue in Washington and requested an officer pick it up. Officers were unable to locate.

 

Runaway/missing persons

A subject reportedly walked away from school in the 700 block of F Avenue in Kalona and another had gotten on the bus, but never arrived at school. Officers attempted to locate.

 

Suspicious activity

A caller in the 100 block of B Avenue in Kalona requested to speak with a deputy Wednesday afternoon in reference to her granddaughter possibly spending the day with a subject in his 40s after she had been reported missing. The incident was documented.

 

Welfare check

A subject reportedly fell Wednesday morning in the 400 block of North B Avenue in Washington. Officers spoke with the subject.
