Arrests

Muharem Bahtic, 22, of Coralville, was arrested Friday morning in the 500 block of 11th Street in Kalona for failure to appear for probation revocation on possession of marijuana.

Curtis Virgil Null, 49, of Brighton, was arrested Friday afternoon in the 1400 block of 315th Street in Brighton for conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine.

Shelby Jean Husar, 69, of Iowa City, was arrested Friday night in the 3100 block of Highway 22 in Riverside for public intoxication.

Steven Maurice Harper, 19, of West Chester, was arrested Saturday evening at Highway 1 and 190th Street in Washington for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance – marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. A written warning was given for broken taillight.

Christopher Michael Wheeler, 20, of Washington, was arrested Sunday evening in the 1000 block of West Madison Street in Washington for assault.

 

Traffic accidents

A vehicle vs. deer accident was reported Friday morning in the 2700 block of 330th Street in Mt. Pleasant. The incident was documented.

A caller reported hitting a deer Friday evening at Highway 218 and 175th Street in Ainsworth. The incident was documented.

A two-vehicle accident was reported Saturday afternoon in the 1800 block of 250th Street in Washington. The incident was documented.

A caller in the 700 block of South C Avenue in Washington reported Saturday afternoon that her vehicle was sideswiped by another vehicle. The incident was documented.

A vehicle vs. deer accident was reported Sunday evening in the 2100 block of 315th Street in Wayland. Officers responded. The incident was documented.

 

Disabled vehicles

A subject in the 1500 block of Highland Avenue in Washington reportedly parked vehicles on the grass and several more vehicles were reported in the street without being moved. Officers advised the vehicles were parked correctly.

 

Traffic other

While travelling on a motorcycle in the 1800 block of Ginkgo Avenue in Wellman Friday morning, A caller reported a vehicle almost hit him head on. The caller and the suspect vehicles were pulled over. The driver was counseled on his poor driving habits. The incident was documented.

Larry Ardell Miller, 64, of Wellman, was cited Friday afternoon in the 1300 block of Ginkgo Avenue in Wellman for unlawful passing of a school bus.

A caller in the 1600 block of North Fifth Avenue in Washington reported Friday night that her neighbor was parked in her parking spot. Officers responded. The incident was resolved.

Jessica Dawn Wiseman, 25, of Washington, was cited Saturday afternoon in the 1200 block of North Iowa Avenue in Washington for driving under suspension.

A caller reported Sunday night being at a residence in the 100 block of North Iowa Avenue in Washington trying to retrieve her vehicle. It was a civil issue.

 

Fire calls

Subjects were reported burning something in the 1200 block of South Iowa Avenue in Washington Friday evening that had a foul smell. Officers responded. No problem.

A go-cart reportedly tipped over Saturday afternoon in the 100 block of South Sixth Street in Kalona and started a field on fire. Kalona Fire Department responded.

Brighton Fire Department was requested Sunday afternoon in the 1200 block of Oak Avenue in Fairfield for a grass and field fire.

 

Physical child abuse

A caller reported Sunday evening her ex-husband physically assaulted their child in the 1500 block of Highway 1 in Washington. Officers responded. Unfounded.

 

Assault

A caller reported Friday night that her son was assaulted earlier in the evening in the 200 block of A Avenue in Kalona. Officers responded. The incident was documented.

 

Drug/narcotics violation

Possible drug paraphernalia was reported Friday morning at a residence in the 300 block of East Polk Street in Washington. Charges are pending.

An officer reported Friday night being out with a subject at Hayes Timber in Washington. Charges are pending for possession of a controlled substance.

 

Fraud

A caller in the 100 block of A Avenue in Kalona reported Sunday afternoon that someone had activated her deceased friend’s Facebook account and was requesting money. Officers were advised. The incident was documented.

 

Stolen property

Two abandoned vehicles were located Sunday afternoon at Quince and 230th Street in Washington. Officers responded. The vehicles belonged to a car dealer and were returned.

 

All other thefts

A gas drive-off in the amount of $34.72 was reported Friday morning in the 1000 block of West Madison Street in Washington. The incident was documented.

Tools were reported stolen from a truck parked in the 60 block of East Fourth Street in Riverside Friday morning.

A caller reported Friday evening moving out of a residence in the 900 block of South Fourth Avenue in Washington and the new resident said she didn’t have the caller’s mail. It was a civil issue.

A gas drive-off in the amount of $20 was reported Saturday afternoon in the 1000 block of West Madison Street in Washington. Officers were advised and left a message for the driver to call in.

A bike was reported stolen Saturday evening in the 100 block of West Washington Street in Washington. The incident was documented.

 

Vandalism

A juvenile reportedly threw a handful of rocks and dirt at a vehicle Friday evening in the 200 block of A Avenue in Kalona. Officers responded.

 

Intimidation/harassment

A group of juveniles were reported Saturday night in the 400 block of C Avenue in Kalona ringing doorbells and pounding on the sides of houses. Officers responded and spoke with the parents.

A subject from Illinois was reportedly texting and calling a subject in the 300 block of A Place in Kalona Sunday evening and saying inappropriate things. Officers responded.

 

Illegal dumping

Trash was reported dumped on a property in the 100 block of Alegre Lane in Washington. Officers contacted the owner.

 

Intoxicated pedestrian

A caller in the 300 block of West Main Street in Washington reported Saturday morning her boyfriend was intoxicated and they were having an argument. Officers responded.

 

Liquor law violations

Elliot James Runciman, 18, of Wellman, was cited Sunday morning in the 1200 block of Juniper Avenue in Kalona with possession of alcohol under the legal age.

 

Animal complaints

Two dogs were reported running loose Friday morning in the 2600 block of Wayland Road in Washington. Officers responded. A written warning was given.

A caller in the 100 block of North Taylor Street in Brighton reported Friday morning that subjects had six cats they did not want so they deposited them in the county. There was also a dog in need of medical attention. Officers responded. The subjects reported they took the cats to a relative’s house in the Iowa City area. The dog belonged to another subject.

Two chickens were reported in a backyard of a residence in the 900 block of South Fourth Avenue in Washington. No violation.

A horse was reported out near the road in the 2600 block of Wayland Road in Washington. Officers contacted the owner.

A dog reportedly growled at the caller Saturday night at South Fourth Avenue and East Madison Street in Washington. Officers responded.

An animal was reported in a yard in the 500 block of West Main Street in Washington Sunday afternoon. Officers were unable to locate.

A dog was reported loose in the 300 block of East Madison Street in Washington Sunday afternoon. Officers responded.

 

DP&Q

A caller in the 200 block of 10th Avenue in Wellman reported Saturday morning hearing subjects outside of her residence and her motion-activated light had also been activated. Officers responded.

Loud music was reported coming from a residence in the 200 block of West Main Street in Brighton Sunday morning. Officers responded.

Loud music was reported Sunday night in the 500 block of South Sixth Street in Washington. Officers responded.

 

All other offenses

A subject who had been asked to leave reportedly locked himself inside a residence in the 1200 block of Maple Avenue in Kalona. Officers responded.

 

Family offense non violent

A violation of a no-contact order was reported Friday afternoon in the 2100 block of Lexington Boulevard in Washington. Officers responded. The incident was documented.

An out-of-control 13-year-old was reported Friday afternoon in the 400 block of East Second Street in Washington. Officers responded.

A caller in the 600 block of Seventh Avenue in Wellman reported Friday night she had to go to work and the father of her baby was refusing to watch the child. Officers responded. The child was left with proper care for the night.

A caller in the 400 block of A Place in Kalona reported Saturday afternoon that she was a tenant on her father’s property and her father locked her out of the residence. Officers responded.

A caller in the 200 block of North Railroad Street in Ainsworth reported Sunday night that her daughter’s boyfriend and his sister were in an altercation with their mom’s boyfriend. Officers responded. Unfounded.

 

Suspicious activity

A young subject was reported in the roadway Friday evening in the 20 block of Parkside Estates Road in Washington. Officers responded.

A subject reportedly attempted to get into the caller’s vehicle Saturday night in the 300 block of East Main Street in Brighton.

A vehicle was reported sitting at a gas pump Sunday night in the 1500 block of East Washington Street in Washington and had been there for 45 minutes with no one getting out. Officers responded. Subject was on the phone with a friend.

 

Welfare check

A caller in the 1100 block of Seventh Avenue in Wellman reported Friday afternoon she was at a residence for a home visit and no one would come to the door. Officers responded.

A subject was reported walking northbound Saturday morning in the 2000 block of Highway 218 in Ainsworth. Officers were unable to locate.

Three juveniles were reported in the street Saturday evening in the 600 block of South Iowa Avenue in Washington. Officers responded.
