Craig Rose, treasurer of the Washington Area Amateur Radio Club, KC0YHU, hops on his ICOM 730 radio to try to contact other amateur radio enthusiasts throughout the country during the annual winter field day Saturday. The event ran from 11 a.m. Saturday to 11 a.m. Sunday. Radio operators were only allowed to power their rigs with backup power, such as batteries and generators, to get full points in the event. The field day is a contest that tests the ability to set up in any conditions. Rose said that it is good practice for emergency conditions.
