Ready, Set, Sew! 4-H workshop planned
The Washington County Extension Office is offering a first time Ready, Set, Sew! Workshop for those 4-H’ers wanting to explore the sewing project area. The workshop will be held at the Extension Office on March 1 from 8:30 to 11:45 a.m. A Project Showcase will be held at 11:45 a.m. for parents, families and friends to come visit and see the day’s projects on display and modeled.
Participants will learn basic sewing terms, basic use of the sewing machine, and complete three different sewing projects. To keep costs affordable and to recycle when possible, youth will complete two ‘upcycle’ sewing projects. Participants need to bring an old sweat shirt they will turn into a bag and bring an old knit shirt (T-shirt or polo shirt style) that will be made into a skirt. Youth will also work on a community service sewing project to make burp clothes for the Preemie Project at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. They will review design elements, project records, and conference judging for those members who want to exhibit these projects at the 2014 Washington County Fair.
A registrations fee is due Feb. 24 to the Washington County Extension Office. For more information about 4-H, or the sewing project area, contact the Extension Office at 319-653-4811.
