Ready, Set, Sew! a sewing success
Thirty-four 4-H’ers and volunteers gathered for the Ready, Set, Sew! workshop on Saturday, March 1. The morning was filled with lessons on design elements, sewing machine parts, and basic stitch practices, and each 4-H’er took home a new skirt they had upcycled from an old knit shirt. 4-H stresses the importance of learning by doing and Ready, Set, Sew! had 4-H’ers doing their own sewing all morning long.
Amy Green, 4-H/Youth Coordinator, said she planned this event to help expose more 4-H’ers to sewing skills and offer them an opportunity to complete a fair project with the support of a workshop setting.
“It ended up being a very popular workshop with many adults willing to step in and help as well. It was great to see so many caring adults working with our members and having a good time,” explained Green.
Washington County 4-H hopes to offer a second sewing workshop later this spring. Please contact them if you are interested in volunteering at 319-653-4811.
