Same Model T — decades apart
The photo on the left is in The Journal’s archive and it is used in The Journal occasionally. Earlier this month, Mary Lowrey contacted The Journal about the photo. Her father, Mike Crone, was the owner of Stewart & Crone, along with his brother-in-law, Warren “Fats” Stewart and brother Don Crone from sometime in the 1940s to when it was sold to Tucker Chevrolet in the 1960s. “Stewart & Crone” is printed on the hood of the car.
Lowrey said that the garage and sales room where Archer Appliance was for many years, next to the present Y. She has a lot of memories of going up and down on the big freight elevator that was located in the back of the building. The elevator was big enough to take cars and trucks up to the second floor where the body shop was located.
The Model T was restored in the early 1980s by Lowrey’s uncle, Fats Stewart and Ardie Lovick. It is on display at Old Threshers every year. The photo on the right was taken at Old Threshers.
