Sigourney-Keota takes second place at sectionals
EDDYVILLE — Sigourney-Keota crowned one champion and had four runners-up as the Savage Cobras took second place at Saturday’s Class 1A sectional tournament at Eddyville-Blakesburg.
Sophomore Cole Streigle, who was the No. 1 seed at 170 pounds, cruised to the sectional championship with a pair of first-period pins.
Four other Savage Cobras reached the finals, but lost. Junior 132-pounder Jeremiah Green won an 18-9 major decision over Southeast Warren sophomore Alex Mitchell in the semifinals, but lost by technical fall to third-ranked Blake Marolf of Eddyville-Blakesburg in the finals. Senior Josh Yoder, who is ranked fourth at 145 pounds, pinned Southeast Warren sophomore Jacob Hoch in the semifinals, but lost a 7-4 decision to ninth-ranked Tucker Black of Eddyville-Blakesburg in the finals. Senior Wes Yoder won an 11-3 major decision over Wayne freshman Blayde Baker in the semifinals, but was pinned by Pekin senior Austyn Vogel in the 152-pound final. And junior heavyweight Tucker Fowler pinned Eddyville-Blakesburg sophomore Luke Welsch in the first period of his semifinal match before getting pinned by Moravia senior Dylan Conley in the third period of his finals bout. But all four wrestlers advanced to districts as runners-up.
Seventh-ranked Eddyville-Blakesburg won the sectional team title with 251 points, and Sigourney-Keota took second with 165 points. The Savage Cobras qualified for tonight’s regional dual tournament at Eddyville-Blakesburg, where they will take on Iowa Valley.
