Stoutner and the Statesmen fall in national title game
POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. — Taylor Stoutner’s college basketball career came to an end on Tuesday night when the William Penn University men’s basketball team lost to Cardinal Stritch 73-59 in the NAIA Division II National Championship game.
The top-ranked Statesmen only trailed the second-seeded Wolves by three points at halftime, but a scoring drought of over six minutes to open the second half was the team’s biggest undoing. William Penn had its 20-game winning streak snapped, but the Statesmen finished the most successful men’s basketball season in school history with a record of 34-2.
Stoutner, a 2008 graduate of Keota High School, started and scored six points in the game. He is one of six players the Statesmen will lose to graduation.
