Summer basketball camps announced
Several opportunities for area boys and girls who are interested in improving their basketball skills are approaching.
The Southeast Iowa Girls’ Basketball Camp, for girls in grades 3 to 8 will be held June 3-6 at Washington High School from 1 to 4 p.m. This camp is designed to work on fundamentals of the game and will also include several skill competitions as well as playing full-court games.
The Washington Basketball Skills Development Camp, held at Washington High School, is for girls in grades 3 to 8. Girls sign up for one-hour time slots. The camp is Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, starting June 9 and ending July 2. This camp is designed to get a basketball in the hands of players for an extended period of time and is set up to work on basic and/or advanced skills, depending on the skillset of the player.
The “You’re Never Too Small To Ball” Kids’ Camp, for girls in kindergarten-second grade, will be held at Washington High School June 4 & 5 from 9-10:30 A.M. This camp is designed to introduce basic basketball skills such as ball-handling, shooting form, defense, rebounding and passing.

The Iowa Mennonite School will also be running camps during the summer for boys and girls. From June 9 to 12 there will be a camp for girls entering Grades 9 to 12, running from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m and for grades 5-8 which runs from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
On June 16-17, IMS will have a camp for boys and girls entering Grades 1 to 2 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Also on June 16 to 18, IMS will hold a camp for boys and girls entering Grades 3 to 4 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Finally, July 21 to 25 IMS will run a camp for boys entering grades 8 to 10 from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. and for boys entering Grades 5 to 7 from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. For more on the IMS camps, go to www.iowamennonite.org. You may also call the school at (319) 683-2586.
