Techel trial to begin Tuesday in the Wapello County Courthouse
AGENCY – The trial of an Agency man charged with killing his pregnant wife is scheduled to begin Tuesday in the Wapello County Courthouse.
Seth Andrew Techel, 22, has pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder and nonconsensual termination of a pregnancy in connection to the death of his wife, Lisa Marie Techel, 23, of Agency. She died in May at their home near Agency.
First-degree murder is a Class A felony with a maximum penalty of life in prison. Nonconsensual termination of a human pregnancy is a Class B felony and carries a penalty of 25 years in prison.
On the morning of May 26, 2012, the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 report of an individual who had “possibly been shot.” The incident happened in the 8700 block of Fox Hill Road southwest of Agency.
A press release from the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office said Lisa Techel was the daughter of a Wapello County sheriff’s deputy and was employed at the Washington County Jail. She also was a reserve deputy with the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office.
Seth Techel’s trial was originally scheduled for Nov. 6, 2012. In October 2012, that trial date was canceled and a new date of Feb. 19 was set.
