TIPTON — There were nine seniors on Mid-Prairie’s state-tournament qualifying girls’ basketball squad this season, and three of those seniors have been chosen to play in Sunday’s CVC-Big East Senior Shoot-Out in Tipton.

Seniors Mariah Swartzentruber, Mallory McArtor and Erika Murphy were selected to represent Mid-Prairie after leading the Golden Hawks to an 18-8 record and the school’s first state tournament berth since 2004 this season.

Swartzentruber, a 5-foot-8 forward, averaged 10.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game this season to lead the Golden Hawks in both categories. She also led Mid-Prairie in made 3-point goals with 33 on the season.

McArtor, a 5-foot-5 guard, added 9.6 points per game. She led the Golden Hawks in free throws made and attempted (77-for-129), and she was an excellent defender, averaging just over three steals per game. Swartzentruber and McArtor were both first team All-Cedar Valley Conference selections.

Murphy, a 5-foot-6 forward, scored 6.4 points per game this season, and she also chipped in 3.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.6 steals per game.

Sunday’s boy-girl doubleheader will be the final time the CVC-Big East Senior Shoot-Out will be held. Next year, the two conferences will not exist in their current memberships and a new set of senior games will occur. The girls’ game will tip off at 3 p.m. at the Tipton Middle School, with the boys’ contest to follow at approximately 4:30 p.m.
