Trojans pummel Golden Hawks 15-3
The Fairfield baseball team made quick work of the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks Tuesday.
The Trojans exerted their dominance in inning No. 1 with seven runs. They added three in the second and five in the fifth, the final inning the mercy rule would allow. The Trojans won 15-3.
The first inning hit-barrage was highlighted by Tyler Cooksey’s grand slam. One inning later, Cooksey roped an RBI double.
“This was definitely a good night for the Trojans,” said Fairfield coach Josh Allison. “The offense was definitely clicking. We had a lot of opportunities with runners in scoring position and we took advantage.”
Allison said he was glad to see Cooksey come through with the big hit. He also was pleased to see so many players perform well off the bench.
“[Alex] Christensen had an opportunity to get an at-bat and he came through with his first varsity hit,” the coach said.
Allison said he was impressed with how Wyatt Stark threw the ball, who was working on just two days of rest.
Stark allowed three runs, one earned, on five hits, two walks, two hit batsmen and five punchouts.
