Turnovers and missed foul shots cost Washington JV girls
Missed free throws and turnovers cost the Washington junior varisty girls’ basketball team in a 40-38 loss to Keokuk on Friday night.
The Demons (10-9) went 7-for-18 from the free-throw line and coughed the ball up 21 times in the loss.
“We talk all the time that free throws will win or lose you a game,” Washington head coach Jay Zieglowsky said. “And we’ve probably lost three games at the free-throw line.”
Sophomore Sydney Hoffman had eight points, seven rebounds and three steals to lead the Demons, and sophomore Rachael Hall added seven points and two assists. Sophomore Elle Van Gundy scored six points and grabbed four rebounds. Sophomore Jordan Stout and freshman Amber Salow scored four points apiece. Salow also had four assists and three rebounds in the contest, and Stout had a pair of rebounds. Freshmen Morgan Kimball and McKayla Miller scored three points apiece, and Kimball had a pair of rebounds. Junior Dema Giardino had two points to go with three assists, and junior Addie Shive pulled down three rebounds.
