Two Main Street meetings planned
The Main Street Washington business improvement committee will host a discussion on the customer profiles of the Washington trade area Wednesday evening with business consultant Jim Thompson of Main Street Iowa as part of its reaccredidation process.
Thompson will give the economic development presentation starting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Washington Free Public Library. Main Street Washington executive director Sarah Sadrakula said that the event is free and open to the public. She encourages business owners and concerned citizens to attend.
“It’s going to be about the trade area of downtown Washington and specifically the downtown area around the square,” Sadrakula said. “He is going to touch on Washington as a whole as well, with trends in consumer spending.”
She said that Thompson will have a handout and be available for questions. She said that Thompson would also present at the noon Kiwanis and Rotary meetings.
Sadrakula said that the goal is to inform people of the economic situation for the business district of Washington is. Thompson will use state demographic data to paint the economic picture of Washington inside the city limits and for several miles around it.
“It is very strong,” Sadrakula said. “We really want people to realize it and reinforce that fact. It is so important that people know how valuable their downtown is.”
Additionally, Sadrakula said that Darlene Strachen of Main Street would be giving a training session on volunteerism beginning at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the library. People interested in learning how to work within a board or committee are invited to attend.
