Two reported dead after fire
Two adult subjects died in a rural Henry County explosion/fire Wednesday.
According to a release from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement was notified at 4:57 p.m. Wednesday of an explosion/house fire at 3207 James Ave.
James Ave. is located approximately two miles east of the Salem Hub, which is adjacent to U.S. Highway 218. The trailer house was located about one-fourth of a mile south of the intersection of James Avenue and the Salem Road.
Upon the deputy’s arrival, the trailer house was fully engulfed by fire.
Later, two adult subjects were found deceased inside the structure.
The fire was extinguished after several county fire departments — Salem Fire and Rescue, Mt. Pleasant Fire and Rescue and the New London Fire Department — battled the blaze.
There were sheriff’s office deputies at the scene this morning, continuing their investigation.
The identities of the deceased are not being released at this time due to pending identification and then notification of family/next of kin.
In addition to local law enforcement, the Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office has been contacted and is assisting with the investigation.
Updates will be posted on the Washington Evening Journal Web site when they are made available.
