WACO sweeps Columbus Junction

WAYLAND – The Columbus Junction High School and WACO High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams faced off in Southeast Iowa Super Conference games on Thursday, Feb. 6. WACO prevailed in the boys’ game 58 – 53 and the girls’ game 45 – 29.
In the boys’ game, senior Rickey Rivers led Columbus Junction in scoring with 18 points. Sophomore Bryce Achen paved the way for WACO with 16 points. WACO outrebounded Columbus Junction 38 – 31 in the boys’ game.
For the girls’ contest, Columbus Junction junior Kelsey Pretz had seven points while WACO junior Erika Leichty had 11.
The Columbus Junction boys are now 4 – 14 overall, 4 – 13 in the SEISC. The Wildcat girls are now 7 – 11 overall, 6 -11 in conference games. WACO’s boys’ team is 6 – 12 overall, 6 -11 in the SEISC while the girls are 6 – 12 overall, 5 – 12 in conference games.
Columbus Junction, both boys and girls, play on Friday, Feb. 7 at Lone Tree. WACO’s boys’ and girls’ teams both play at Louisa – Muscatine on Friday, Feb. 7.
