WACO to honor shooting victims
WAYLAND — WACO’s Elementary School Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) is going to plant a tree in honor of the students and staff members who lost their lives Dec. 14 in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings in Newtown, Conn.
Brandy Parsons, who also serves as drill team sponsor, said some of her drill team participants brought up the subject during practice last Saturday.
“They really felt bad about it and wanted to do something in memory of them,” Parsons told the WACO School Board last night.
In the meantime, the PTO has become involved and the group has contacted Tim Egli of Egli Landscaping of Wayland, who has agreed to help them plant a tree.
Parsons said a picture of the tree and a card will be send to the Sandy Hook Elementary School this winter.
“We will plant the tree in the spring but are not sure which site (Wayland or Crawfordsville) it will be planted at. Then, we will send the school (Sandy Hook) a plaque,” Parsons told the board.
