WACO tops IMS in consolation final
After falling to the host Demons in the first round of the Washington Invite softball tournament on Saturday, IMS met WACO in the consolation final, where the Warriors defeated IMS 10-6.
IMS scored a run in the top of the first inning, but WACO answered with two in the bottom of the frame. IMS tied the game in the top of the second, but the Warriors scored two in the bottom of the inning and two more in the third to take a 6-2 lead. Both teams scored a run in the fifth inning, and then IMS scored three in the sixth to trim WACO’s lead to 7-6. But the Warriros scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 10-6 win.
Senior Naomi Miller went 2-for-4 and scored a pair of runs to lead IMS. Junior Casey Perez and sophomore Demi Brezina both had a double and an RBI in the game, and sophomore McKayla Brush hit an RBI single. Senior Keilah Brokaw also had a double in the game, and senior Laurah Hochstetler singled and scored a run.
Brokaw took the loss. She gave up six runs on nine hits in three innings. She struck out two batters and walked one.
IMS (5-9) will host rival Lone Tree tonight at 5:30 p.m.
