Wall of flames

Apr 08, 2013
Washington County Conservation director Steve Anderson uses accelerant on the flames of the annual prairie burn held Friday evening. Early each spring, the prairie ground on a different part of the park is burned. Anderson said that the burn takes out the woody vegetation and recycles the nutrients in the soil. He said the tradition goes back to when Native Americans inhabited the area. Over 50 people attended the event.
