Washington County 4-H’ers achieved many high honors at the annual Southeast Iowa Showdown held at the Lee County Fairgrounds Saturday, Aug. 2.
This unique and prestigious livestock show has been hosted  in Des Moines County for almost 10 years that invites the county fair grand champions from Washington, Louisa, Lee, Henry, Des Moines, Jefferson, Johnson and Muscatine County Fairs to compete against one another at a more regional competition. This is a unique show as it is by invite only for the best of each county to compete against their neighboring counties.
There is one class of market and breeding cattle, market and breeding sheep, market and breeding swine, and market and breeding meat goats in this champion show.  Washington County sent eight representatives, one for each class, and came away with seven top honors.
Washington County took the following champion and reserve champion honors: Grand Champion steer: Courtney Shalla; Grand Champion Heifer: Riley Sieren; Grand Champion Breeding Doe: Haley Sweeting; Reserve Champion Breeding Gilt: Macy Marek; Reserve Champion Market Lamb: Madison Sheetz; cattle showmanship: Courtney Shalla; and hog showmanship: Macy Marek.
Washington County should be proud of the wonderful kids and livestock that were at Lee County representing this county.  Several of these youth with also be competing in the next two weeks with their animals at the Iowa State Fair.  Watch Facebook for results at “Washington County 4-H – Iowa.”
