Washington 7th-grade girls take second
FAIRFIELD – The Washington Middle School seventh-grade girls’ track and field team participated in the Fairfield Relays on Monday, May 5, placing second in the field of seven teams with 115 points.
First-place finishes started with Haylee Wilson in the shot put with her throw of 24 feet, 6 ¾ inches. The shuttle hurdle relay (Claire Horak, Brieanna Banks, Ashley Tellen and Isabel Bailey) came in first with a time of 1 minute, 23.06 seconds. The distance medley (Horak, Payton Jones, Bailey and Molly Sparks) also won in 5:22.86.
Completing the wins for Washington was Jenah Greiner, who recorded first-place times in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes of 14.04 and 30.18.
The list of second-place finishes starts with Greiner in the long jump, landing at 12-10. Washington (Sparks, Tori Brush, Madelyn Janecek and Christina Brinning) was second in the 4x800-meter relay in 12:35. Tellen came in second in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 6:12.
Among the third-place finishers was Janecek, who cleared a bar set at 3-8 in the high jump. Sami Reighard also placed third in the 200-meter hurdles in 35.29. The 4x100-meter relay (Jones, Mackenzie Gutierrez, Brianna Banks and Horak) was third with a time of 1:02.09. The 4x400-meter relay (Brush, Reighard, Bailey and Greiner) got the same placement in 5:17.86.
The two fourth-place marks for Washington were Abby DeWolf in the discus with a throw of 68-4 and Reighard in the 400-meter dash in 1:13.23.
Brush earned a fifth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 21-9. Brinning finished fifth in the 800-meter run in 3:03. Horak was sixth in the long jump with a mark at 12 feet.
