Washington County Extension plans summer camps

The Washington County Extension Office will be sponsoring summer day camps. Registrations are due June 1.

“Welcome to the Jungle” day camp is for youth who will be entering kindergarten in the fall of 2013. Dates to attend this camp are June 11 at Kalona City Park, June 12 at Marr Park, or June 13 at Riverside Hall Park. Each day will offer the same fun and will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Youth will explore together on a jungle safari to discover wild animals and cool habitats. They will be creating and playing as they immerse themselves in jungle life. Beverages and snacks will be provided. There is a cost for this camp.

“Dig Those Dinosaurs” day camp is for youth who just completed kindergarten and first grade as of June 2013. Dates to attend this camp are June 18 at Kalona City Park, June 19 at Marr Park, or June 13 at Riverside Hall Park. Each day will offer the same fun and will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Discover the wonders of the creatures that lived before us! Dig for fossils, build dinosaurs, and hunt for dinosaur eggs. Beverage and snacks will be provided, but campers will need to bring a sack lunch. There is a fee for this camp.

“Bubble Mania” day camp is for youth who just completed kindergarten and first grade as of June 2013. Dates to attend this camp are July 2 at Kalona City Park or July 3 at Marr Park. Both days will offer the same fun and will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Youth will be bubbling with excitement while they build their own bubble machines, conduct experiments, and make special bubble art. Beverage and snacks will be provided, but campers will need to bring a sack lunch. There is a cost for this camp.

“Mystery of the Missing Bear” day camp is for youth who just completed second and third grades as of June 2013. Dates to attend this camp are June 25 at Kalona City Park, June 26 at Marr Park, or June 27 at Riverside Hall Park. Each location will offer the same fun and will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Be a detective to solve this missing bear case! Learn and practice finding clues, testing evidence, comparing suspects and solve the mystery! Beverage and snacks will be provided, but campers will need to bring a sack lunch. There is a fee for this camp.

“Adventures in Waste and Recycling” day camp is for youth who just completed fourth and fifth grades as of June 2013. The date for this camp is July 1 at Marr Park from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Investigate what will last 500 years in the landfill. Join Ricky Recycling to explore the importance of recycling and reusing to keep our communities clean. Learn to shop and save the environment at the same time. Create a piece of recycled art.

Space is limited to 20 registrations for each day. Information and registrations are available at the Washington County Extension Office and on the Web at <http://www.extension.iastate.edu/washington>. Registrations are due June 1 and camps will be filled on a first-come first-served basis.
