Washington County Genealogical Society
The Washington County Genealogical Society met in the genealogical library at 7 p.m. Dec. 4. Ferd Marie conducted the business meeting. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Tom Dayton gave the treasurer's report which was approved as well.
An election of officers for 2013 was held with the officers from 2012 being re-elected. The officers include Ferd Marie, president; Janice Twinam, vice president; Rosamond Goodlander, recording secretary; Tom Dayton, treasurer; Susan Clark, librarian; Marjorie Neil, assistant librarian; Margie Lasek, corresponding secretary and newspaper editor.
Susan Clark presented the book "We Lucky Few" written by local authors Jim Cuddeback and his daughter Cheyenne about the experiences of some of the living World War II veterans. It was moved by the society to purchase the book for the genealogical library.
Marjorie Neil announced that a new book "The Gowey Family Diary" has been placed on the family history shelves.
The program for the evening consisted of a discussion on "Toys and Games from the Past." Many memories were evoked as the members recalled many of the toys and games of their childhood.
The January meeting will be changed from Tuesday to Wednesday Jan. 2 because of the New Year holiday. It will be held at 7 p.m. in the Genealogical Library in the basement of the Washington Public Library. The public is welcome.
