Washington eighth-grade boys finish third at Fairfield Relays
FAIRFIELD — The Washington eighth-grade boys’ track and field team took third place at the Fairfield Relays on Tuesday night.
The Demons won three events and scored 115.5 points. Mt. Pleasant won the meet with 142 points, and Ottumwa was second with 119 points.
Kyle Schindler won the 200-meter dash in 25.82 seconds, and he was also a member of Washington’s winning 4x400 relay. The quartet of Trey Van Weelden, Kyle Anderson, Schindler and Drake Brezina won in 4:08.10.
Washington also won the shuttle hurdle relay. The quartet of Anderson, Matt Reighard, Ryan Loy and David Bradford took first place in 1:08.56.
Noah Bruns cleared 5 feet, 1 inch to take second place in the high jump competition, he finished second in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.47 seconds, and he was a member of Washington’s second-place 1,600 medley relay. The quartet of Van Weelden, Loy, Bruns and Dakota Kron was runner-up in 4:25.75.
Washington’s 4x200 relay team of Reighard, Bradford, Schindler and Brezina took second place in 1:48.36, and the quartet of David Mares, Bryce Sinn, Jesus Nunez and Owen Horak finished second in the 4x800 relay in 10:36.29.
Anderson took second place in the 200-meter hurdles in 29.51 seconds, and Bradford was fifth in 31.36 seconds. Austin Hazelett finished third in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.25 seconds.
Washington’s 4x100 relay team of Bryce Craff, Reighard, Bruns and Brezina took third place in 52.07 seconds, and the sprint medley squad of Van Weelden, Noah Enfield, Loy and Craff came in fifth in 1:58.63.
Carlton Skubal claimed fourth place in both the shot put and discus. He threw the disc 110 feet, and he tossed the shot 36 feet, 9 inches. Teammate Aaron Vittetoe finished sixth in the shot put with a throw of 32 feet, 11 inches. Enfield finished fifth in the long jump competition with a leap of 15 feet, 6 inches.
Kron took fourth place in the 800-meter run in 2:29.77, and Sinn came in fifth in the 1,600-meter run in 5:58.78. Mason Rich placed fifth in the 200-meter dash in 28.76 seconds, and Jake Wheeler was fifth in the 400-meter dash in 1:04.18. Caleb Bex took sixth place in the 100-meter dash in 14.29 seconds.
The Washington eighth-grade boys’ track and field team is scheduled to compete at the Southeast Iowa Junior High Meet in Mt. Pleasant on Friday at 4:30 p.m. and then again at the Mid-Prairie Invitational on Saturday at 9 a.m.
