Washington FFA Chapter wins 2013 State FFA Livestock Career Development Event

Photo by: Washington High School FFA The Washington FFA was named Champion Team at the Iowa FFA Livestock Evaluation Career Development Event (CDE). Team members are Lexi Marek, daughter of Tim and Heather Marek; McKenna Brinning, daughter of Shane and Kathleen Brinning; Sarah Greiner, daughter of Amy and Brant Greiner; Macy Marek, daughter of Tim and Heather Marek. The team was High Team in Beef and Oral Reasons and placed second in Sheep and third in Swine. The team will represent Iowa in the National FFA Livestock Evaluation CDE.

The Washington FFA Chapter was named the Champion Team in the annual Iowa FFA Livestock Career Development Event held at Iowa State University in Ames on Aug. 24, 2013. Members of the first-place team included McKenna Brinning, Sarah Greiner, Lexi Marek, and Macy Marek. Their agriculture education instructor and FFA advisor is Duane Van Winkle. They will represent Iowa at the National Livestock Career Development Event at Louisville, Ky., in October. Macy Marek, Washington FFA Chapter, was named the High Individual Overall in the competition.

The FFA Livestock Evaluation Career Development Event provides an opportunity for FFA members to display their agricultural knowledge and skills in the area of livestock evaluation. Activities included placing breeding and market classes of beef, swine, and sheep; grading classes of beef, swine, and sheep; and oral reasons classes. There were 172 members participating from 49 chapters.
